Due to backstabbing friends and family i got stuck in my smalltown instead of going to the city like i planned. Now i'm obsessed with the life i missed out on and want to kms everyday. Suburban America sucks. All the pretty people run to the city and leave it a graveyard.

As someone who spent their entire life in SF and LA then moved to a small town (3000 people) I can assure you, you have it better. I got a job, met everyone, became part of the White community. Pretty good.

I spent some time living in Fort Wayne - IN due to a job related project 4 years ago. Met a girl and we dated for a while, I had to go back to Brazil for a few weeks and she wanted to come with me to visit the country.

She was as bottom middle class as it gets. Lived in a shitty neighborhood, holes in the streets, trash everywhere, with her parents. Home was filled with major issues such as heating not working properly, holes in the walls, doors falling apart, broken appliances etc.

Her parents were a mess. Mom missed a lot of teeth, dad had major heart issues. They would never get anything checked due to American healthcare being the way it is.

She obviously couldn't afford the trip so I made it happen.

Idk what she expected from BR, probably a pretty but slum-filled shithole, but I'm from southern brazil where things are mostly ok and nigger free.
I swear, she believed I took her to Dubai or some shit. She couldn't stop thanking me when I told her I would take her to do basic health checkups and stuff.

In the end, things didn't work out. The project ended and I couldn't stay in the States, I'm upper middle class in BR but cant afford a USD living, and she didn't wanna stay away from her parents and didn't show any efforts to learn portuguese. It's a shame, she was very beautiful and sweet, still wonder if she's okay from time to time but we lost contact.

Bro i could tell you stories you wouldn't believe about this. A friend of mine is structural engineer for the water evacuation system in Paris. He told me all they do is pray for nothing to implode because they have no fucking clue how it all function. The Paris' sewer system was made during the 1800s and they didn't bother scanning the original plans & materials. Of course now all the standards changed, all the machinery and pump system back then doesn't exist anymore.
Thankfully back then our ancestors designed things made to last, but they certainly didn't expect it to last 180 years kek. Especially now the city's population grew exponentially, but the water system didn't change an inch, it's just always more tubes being tied to the old system.
And when it breaks down, well... it happened in my modest 15K inhab town, in the middle of the main city's center road. Same issue : all the stuff was made in the 1800s, no engis able to fix it and no budget to fix it. They simply blocked the access to the road, and left it like that, with a 50m long, 6m deep gap in the middle of the road, and half the houses connected to the next's street water system.
It was in 2021. It's still there, with no plans to fix it up. So believe me i know the competency crisis is getting REAL bad.

depends on where you live. Democratic cities often do look like that. Rural areas will have old run down buildings but it will be clean and orderly for the most part. The suburbs just outside of almost any major US city is absolute paradise though VERY expensive if you didn't buy in before heavy development.
