Never quit, make them fire you. If you quit they can say whatever they want about how your time with them ended. If they fire you they have to put on record why. They can't hide the conditions they were putting you under. And if you quit you potentially lock yourself out of things like pensions, retirements, hours accrued and even the ability to sue

I don't have a reputation at all. I come in, do my job, and leave. That's it. That's what I'm paid for. You're paid to MANAGE. I said I can't make it. You either accept that or start writing me up for a sick day. You know what else is absolutely wrong? Management paying someone they absolutely NEED, less than the guy who running the fucking thing, who apparently needs me.

My last job (7 years ago) fired me. They put "no longer a fit for the role", and that's it. I had a few interviews where they asked and I was clear, it was a result of shifting power within the company, and I wound up on the wrong side of the wrong person who gained power, simple as that.

Thank god that was 7 years ago and I have it behind me now. Getting fired really sucks.

I don't take vacation days anymore for exactly this reason. Advance notice is like asking for permission. Next time say "I'm sick, I can't come in" and leave it at that.

I worked as a caregiver for some time. When being hired I told them I would work in this very narrow area because they don't pay you to commute. They want you to work two hours here, two hours, there, two hours somewhere else, with 1 hour drive times in between with no money for your gas or time. After hiring they ignored the area I was hired to work in and just tried sending me all over the place until I put my foot down. Then they were threatening me like this.

Vacation days for me is not asking for permission. Its a notice I will not be in the office at that time and to plan accordingly. I've butted heads with managers over it before and all it does is turn me from a good employee to a spiteful employee until fired or quitting. Too many managers try to prove they are your manager instead of realizing they are in over their head when you call out sick for a week and a few extra days for having vacation denied. Its a gambit but I'm a proper white man so I can get away with being a prick when it comes to these things.

There's no such thing as a reputation forever at work. Everyone just remembers the last thing you did. And your bosses leave or get promoted. Nothing you do matters there.

A buddy of mine had to quit his job recently and get a new one because he had this vacation planned, to go to Europe, flight book, hotel booked... etc... the company didn't look at his time off request for 6 months. The week before he was leaving, he told his bosses who all said he couldn't go. They literally just ignored the request months ago.

Friend said fuck it, went anyways and came back. They were being pissy with him so he flips shit in a big board meeting and quit his job.

It's ridiculous that corporations make you fill out permission slips to go live life and if you do, they just ignore them anyways. They have too much power in their own heads.
