Sounds simple but there are so many fucking useless people in these positions that don’t pay attention to details. You get good with the basics and you will be worth more than them even if they can do more. Find industries that are big near you. I live in RI so we have factories. If you live rural it’s very likely logistics is big. Learn skills and experience in the local industry and apply it to accounting and you are golden.

I should have an internship lined up for January of next year but I really want to get into something sooner. I don’t really “know” the industry yet so I don’t really know where to start.
