The president getting shot and dying would create a significant enough divergent event to where you would see a timeline divergence, where Timeline A (pres lived) and everything after that collapses into nothing, and Timeline B takes over. Now that Timeline B has been confirmed, everything in timeline B becomes known, and the new set of unknowns from the newly created D, E, F options from within new timeline B exist, waiting for the next major even before those timelines collapse.
