500k would be enough to change my life.
It wouldn't. You would need recurring income to get the change that you are envisioning.
Nah its doable on 500k. Infact it's doable on a few hundred thousand, just about. Particularly if you already own your own place.
Chase bank, for instance, currently has 3.5% interest on instant access savers up to 1 milly.
So if you bang 300k in, you'd get about 10.5k a year in interest.
Bennies, assuming you don't have all the cheat codes on, is currently about 4.8k living allowance and about then same in housing allowance per year.
Self stacking, you'd make about 8 to 14k a year but would need to working flat out to get the higher end.
It's surprising how many people with money, like a hundred k to hundreds of k, that also complain about work and winter fuel allowance payments, have all their money just parked in a regular debit account earning 0.05%. You should just move any money you have to instant access saver as soon as you get it and then only transfer money to debit one to cover whatever you're buying/paying for in the near term. A bonus of doing that is if someone actually manages to get you card or details, the maximum they can steal if whatever is in that account. I usually have about £50 max in mine.
