Regarding your discussions of Russians "slow-rolling" the conflict, they absolutely are not. They attempted combined arms assaults in massive numbers very early in the war and video footage of these movements still exists. There was TONS of footage of Russian helicopters and armor earlier in the war. If you'd been paying attention, you'd know that open-source casualty counts have confirmed that most of their armor has been destroyed and their helicopters have been used far more sparingly at this point in the war.

The problem for the Russians is that they're corrupt and poorly-led so those assaults suffered massive casualties and they simply no longer have the hardware and coordination to do any more complex assaults. Moreover, they never pressed SEAD or secured air supremacy so they have their best aircraft being shot down all the time and unable to effectively employ weapons. All of this "combined arms" theory means nothing if you can have 100 drones kamikaze your armor.

Regarding medics, dude this is Russia. People are expendable. You get a soviet era tourniquet or bandage and that's it. These guys are waging war on a shoestring budget at this point. Footage of Russian armored vehicles is extremely rare at this point.

My theory is that the DoD staff, esp. once they actually had some empirical results, realized that the Houthis couldn't be dealt with at a price the political leadership was willing to pay; it would require far too many standoff weapons, which are basically irreplaceable at this point and potentially needed elsewhere, and far too many jet sorties.

This is because the Houthis are used to living and working under aerial bombardment; everything's either dispersed and camouflaged, or underground. Their air defenses in particular are probably experts at camouflage, concealment, and ambush tactics, so that they're nigh on ineradicable.

The result? It's a cumulative effect: given the number of sorties you'd have to fly to have any hope of achieving anything (and even then, it's no guarantee), you'd expect some number of airframe losses.

One final thing - if that "almost" was a previously-unsuspected SAM system appearing seemingly out of nowhere and obtaining a lock on an F-35, with a loss avoided only thanks to a lucky break, well - that's the kind of thing you don't ignore. It's all very speculative, of course, as you point out.

And we probably only get a fraction of these videos. MALE drones operating on or even slightly behind the frontline . And it's not gonna get better, the air defense systems they're getting are nowhere near enough to plug the gaps, it's barely enough to put a dent on Geran raids on their remaining industry.
A lot of the air defense systems that did the heavy lifting close to the front were Strelas and Buks, and those are running out. The really short ranged, ghetto modded systems like the ground launched R-73 of the Gravehawk don't have the range to engage MALE drones in most circumstances, the more capable ones like IRIS-T SLS are far too rare. The BUK with Sea Sparrows should be alright at it, but they don't seem to have many.
Granted, a lot of this is probably alsodue to increased Russian MALE drone production and finally figuring out some decent payloads for them, at the start of the war they mostly used beamriding ATMGs, which are really shitty for this type of job.
