A large number of long term homeless are literally feral humans. If you walked into some of the patients rooms you'd think they'd been living there for a year, sleeping rough, even though they only arrived 24 to 48h ago, because they actually like sleeping on the floor surrounded by shopping bags full of rubbish etc and will rapidly trash the area around them, e.g. by dropping food, Ash, rolling papers, coffee etc directly on the floor. These kind are waaaaaay beyond anything you can "fix" with a $10 tip.

Charities you just donate money to are also bullshit. A huge quantity of them do next to nothing and just skim money off.

If you want to help in anyway you're literally best off just donating clothes / appliances to those upcycle places or places that actually run hostels directly themselves.

i only worry they are "professionally homeless" i think its a real thing, better to just donate to free food places i think

I'm not going to not give alms because someone MIGHT be faking their homelessness, you never know. So just give anyway. Some people are homeless by choice just like Jesus or Diogenes was. Some people are mendicants. That was an occupation in medieval Europe, but it is more dangerous to do in our multiracial world now.

I hate that I live in a society that treats people like shit.
