I'm not a useless codemonkey, until AI is walking around as robots doing work, I don't have to worry.

You need to have plans in place to go into things that AI cannot manage. Usually this means trade work since there isn't a robot that can unplug a toilet, fix an electrical circuit, resolve a random sparse issue with a water/gas control line, understand crew specific orders, etc.

my work has changed from writing code to giving detailed instruction to the AI and proof-reading what the AI spits out
I'm probably several times more productive than before, though it's strange getting use to it.
Maybe programmer will have trouble finding jobs, or maybe more things will get coded.
What's for sure is that hackers will have bread in the coming decades, because more code is written by AI than is being read by humans.

Journalism isn't a job were they have to keep their sphincter puckered hoping they don't screw up and get a million dollar lawsuit. Similarly with most "creative" fields. These businesses have all been selling their companies and the people that have been buying them have been getting them like Rupert Murdoch.
Creative fields have never been profitable to simply work in. The money has always been in starting companies and growing them until investment firms snatch them up. The people who are complaining about ai taking their jobs never get the memo on how their business actually works because they've been brainwashed by boomers who were getting paid through whole different system in the 70's and 80's. Believe it or not but the boomers already sold the future of their industries out long before AI ever came onto the scene. Creative "jobs" have always been a revolving door because it's always cheaper to pay the newbie fresh out of school to do the labor then to actually wake a living doing labor yourself. There's always another kid trying to "get his foot in the door" that you never actually have to pay anybody anything. Just hire an intern for credit then refuse to hire them when the internship is done. Pocket all the cash and make out like a bandit when you sell the company.

these two things are not the same. staff writers have jobs, you have a temporary contract.

They aren't firing people round here or replacing forklift drivers with automation , but they also aren't hiring new people to do those jobs

Automated forklifts and other machines do what they can and forklift drivers do the remaining difficult stuff and extra like more palletisation work and maintenance. 1 employee even on minimum wage is £30,000 a year saving just in wages and employer taxes
