The system the US offered the world vs. the one the USSR offered was worse. Realistically a planned economy is better than waiting for a market to be created especially since there's no scarcity causing any need for innovation. The model of free trade only really existed to bleed out the USSR with welfare states, Europe would have gladly became USSR satellites if it allowed them more state control because of how cut throat the private sector is. The US very much intended to hollow out states into 'national' cultures and serve a purely aesthetic function in public works while letting private corporations do all of the research and management of assets. I think the Cold War was mostly performative in the sense that it was testing to pros and cons of big government vs. mass privatization. I think privatization won considering that even China today relies on the private sector to an extent that the USSR would never even after perestroika. At this point private transnational corporations have formed a superstate in the global shadow banking system, almost 80% of the entire world's GDP is held within it.
