Even knowing how to program CnC machines is incredibly valuable, I know lots of blokes in Finance and Medicine who taught themselves how to code and now build software for those industries which is extremely lucrative. But they first and foremost have the experience and knowledge of those industries, coding is just a secondary tool that they can use.

I think the industry is shifting where DEV OPs and software support guys will make the good money. You can train AI like pajeets to do basic issues but you still need personable guys who can troubleshoot complex issues over teams. If I was starting off in IT I would go in that direction
