Elon Musk says he plans to cut back on political spending, after making huge donations in the 2024 election to boost President Trump.
“In terms of political spending, I’m going to do a lot less in the future,” he said in a video interview at the Qatar Economic Forum. “I think I’ve done enough.”
“Taking his toys and going home,” said Steve Bannon, a Trump ally who has verbally sparred with Musk.
It’s a significant turnaround from the days after Trump’s win in November, when Musk posted on social media that he would “keep grinding” away at election funding and “play a significant role in primaries.”
On Tuesday, asked if he would still be chief executive of Tesla in five years, Musk said, “Yes.” He then caveated, adding, “Well, I might die.”
The Wall Street Journal recently reported, citing people familiar with the matter, that Tesla board members reached out to several executive search firms to work on a formal process for finding Tesla’s next CEO.
