Most "software engineer" jobs don't actually require you to code, especially ones at big companies. They'll ask you hard technical questions during interviews just to have you spend your days attending meetings and updating dependencies to remediate vulnerability findings.

I'm a little out of date. But these resident colleges were ridiculous. Administrators would whinge that freshmen have a hard time adjusting to living on their own, so we should not expect them to learn anything at all for the first year.
But remote learning is a farce. My biggest problem was that students needed to come see me to get individual attention, but almost none of them did. I assumed they were too busy partying.
