COMPUTER SCIENCE OFFICIALLY MOST WORTHLESS DEGREE

Good thing I got out of that major for informatics instead.

Data science is safe, I hope.

learn to code?

Learn to mine.

Data science is safe, I hope.

And yet Elon is dying to hire foreign workers

you're telling me that making $150k/year+ to perpetually update a website isn't a viable long-term career? wtf.

Fuck this shit. Fuck these faggot institutions. Thanks for the debt, cocksuckers.
Now get the FUCK out of my country.

Employed

Surely it means working on their field and not as a Service wagie

A GLORIFIED EXCEL SHEET SORTER

why would they need a job? can't they just do science with the computer? isn't that what they wanted?

The funniest thing is it used to just be shit like philosophy that was useless

Then we added 'government' focused degrees like International Relations or Political Science as we turned government into a jobs fair for niggers

Then shit like Pure Math or Biology became useless, along with almost all of STEM except for E and T

Accounting is gatekept by decrepit boomers who don't want any competition, and then are confused why they can't find any good help. Financial analysts are apparently being replaced by AI.

Then T got destroyed by AI and pajeet outsourcing. How long will E last? It's in demand, currently, but 70,000 a year starting is where it was 20 years ago. Well, not the worst major you can choose.

Ironically, English majors might have become more useful, as long as they sub-major into AI queries, though technical writers are fucking dead.

All the degrees that were safe progressively became more and more worthless.

All the unemployment rate trackers say CS has about a 3.5% for recent grads. I make $200k a year working 6 hours days at home. 6 years out of college

Column mapping will rape you. Data sciencr is just column mapping.

Your fucked

Learn to say "thank you come again!"

Doing what?

It says anthropology is the highest unemployment but I wonder if less “useful” degrees like those will be the ones to survive AI

You guys need to start a guild and forming companies. Why isn't this happening? Has it been tried? Are the efforts being actively disrupted?

funny how you're all morons and falling for another psyop while preaching for it
it's like you're all forgetting the early 2000s, of course you do because you all newfags!

We've got a system where CEOs have no real incentive to actually optimize and improve their businesses. The real job of a CEO isn't to lead the company, it is to build a sales pitch to investors.
Careers are being gambled away by executives who make far more than your middle-class salary, who are gambling for gambling's sake on a bubble to please some random investors.
It's another bubble, a big one, and it will backfire, when it will we will see a massive uptick in SWE jobs once again!
Plus you're all missing one big important point, prior to 2022, companies could immediately deduct research and development expenses, including software development costs, in the year they were incurred. However, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) of 2017, signed into law by Trump, included a provision that, starting in 2022, requires businesses to capitalize and amortize these R&D expenses over five years for domestic activities and fifteen years for foreign activities.
Unironically, learn to code because in few years from now, we will be back in business!
Enjoy your little moment untermensch

true

6 years out of college

Oof. AI is going to end your life, you're about a working career too late.

My cope: hopefully hiring picks up in a year or so when everyone realizes LLMs are useless for anything beyond the most trivial tasks (same goes for jeets)

any mexicans in your team

College should be debt paid through a relevant job after college, not unforgivable dollar-denominated debt.

How are places like Austin even still existing in their current state? Still just WFH people fucking around all day, who is still paying these people?

Remember folks, AI is going to take over those scumbag working class truck drivers first. Oh wait, AI can do anything IT related way better than you can, faggot.

AI will first eliminate security guards
then financial operations
then maybe some train like transport

get a meme degree

pass all their tests

denied an interview because I didn't exhibit stellar confidence or some meme buzzword

go back to a business degree

hear that business is dying because of AI and shit they don't 'need' humans to do analysis, loan issuance, bookkeeping, procurement etc. anymore

I'm going to get a cert in mechatronics and repair all the robots that are taking all the jerbs until they invent repairbot 9000. Then I will go on a murderous rampage.

And yet you'll hear all the FAANG faggots beg for H1Bs.

AI is being used as an excuse, the truth is there was massive over hiring leading up to covid-19 as it was a sign to the market of a growing company, user base, gold plating work spaces.

Then you have Elon Musk post-covid who made firing people great again. And you have all these tech fuckwits playing that game instead. Firing people jacks up share price in the short term, but there will be another tipping point where the narrative becomes a growing healthy company is a hiring company again.

tl;dr the current business narrative is to slim and prop up the stock price. It will shift to grow/hire in about 3-5 years again. AI or no AI.

Business, as is all things, is perception.

They're incredibly ugly

AI can't even replace our SDET team yet. I'm not concerned.
Not on my team but we have Mexicans and Brazilians on other teams. Lot of Spaniards since it's European. Como resultado, volví a aprender español.

When MSM says so you should do the opposite

And let me tell you why. The current majority senior devs are absolutely filthy degenerates. You need morally sane coders to replace them.

that's not how it works. that's just a saying because MSM is usually late as fuck with the news

We need an army of coding crusaders

You're so fucking retarded that you couldn't figure out that AI will take over that as well? Nigga ai will take most jobs. Including the jobs of doctors, lawyers, engineers, et cetera.

this is actually my fault
my whole life i've had this curse where when I decide to get into something it just fucking dies and any momentum it had fucking plummits

sorry compsci bros

BI engineer here, I "program" in SQL and create pretty bar graphs in Power BI. Is AI going to take my job?

same dude...same...i gave up on pursuing compsci in general. i also went for finance and accounting and dropped out cause i saw the writing on the wall years ago.

the job market is retarded. its been said before. its just goyim daycare for women so we dont have families. they already got the robots ready to go anyhow. just waiting for the right timing.

Yes, but no. It's just going to make your job easier. Those who worry about AI is retarded. AI is going to make us all wealthier.

Good thing I chose to be a Computer Niggerest. I say nigger online.

Things like entity resolution will be infinitely easier with AI.

If you're a nigger. I understand why youd be coping.
If you're white SA. The jews will use ai death drones to genocide you.

AI should be a huge force multiplier for people who know what they are doing

But what he's really saying is that modern colleges aren't actually teaching anything.

Why are pajeets so bad at column mapping

No one is sponsoring clearance.

I m not sure if i should hate or like these people.
On one hand they are the bane of our existance in multiple ways on the otherhand they are kind of useful.
We should revert that back to the 90s or early 2000s just better, and dunno maybe "persuade" them to not do certain things. But that is mostly up to their overlords.

The major saw an unemployment rate of 6.1 percent, just under those top majors like physics and anthropology, which had rates of 7.8 and 9.4 percent respectively.

STEM btfo!

An abundance of software people.

more people majoring in CS than EVER before

job interviews are extremely selective, multiple rounds of informatics Olympiad level questions

Yet

modern software is crap and bloated.

kek its not their fault you're a retard

Obviously, the number of midwits, DEI niggers, women, troons etc. with high paying jobs was never sustainable.

six percent

Can anyone here read or understand statistics? That means ~%94 employment rate.

Less than 1% of the human population can write code. Either you people don't understand statistics or you are just lying.

Based career chosing muttmericanbro

Compsci isn't a worthless degree, it's one of the best. The problem is that 99% of people with compsci degrees are autistic and everything about modern work culture is designed to filter out autists. Compsci isn't unemployable, autists are.

fast food is going bankrupt world wide

The way they measure unemployment is retarded.
American Colleges supply twice as many CS grads per year as there are new tech jobs per year.
Add in layoffs, off shoring, importing foreign workers, and the job market becomes extremely tough and competitive.

Nobody with a compsci degree from a top tier university is unwillingly unemployed.
Guess you should've hunkered down harder in high school and gotten into a better college.
Stop being lazy and expecting everything handed to you on a silver platter.

I have no sympathy for you computer guys because this is your own damn fault for not unionizing and regulating your own goddamn profession. And don't forget my fucking ketchup!

Freshman year filled with courses on feminism and such rot

boomers promoted computer science, because their computer stocks and computers make them lots of money or they are just addicted
I did CS cause I was like ok programming is something professional I can reason with
the profs are super gay fags tho and the last good ones are dying about now, because of tech industry, boomers, lesbian lgbt constant bullshit
I should have done computer engineering or electrical engineering, cause I thought a science would be easier, but had I pursued either of those instead what school I would have chosen, what my plan would have been etc would have been a lot better because of how soaked tech got, and EE or CE world you at least are deep into why things function where CS is all over the place

AI will make ALL human labour obsolete, both intellectual and physical.

AlphaEvolve has demonstrated that it can solve mathematical problems and create new math that humans have been intellectually incapable of doing for decades. As AIs become more powerful and we better learn how to communicate to with them their ability to solve every possible problem will become absolute and vastly exceed biological humans at every possible task and even processing tasks that biological humans can not even conceive of.

I make $200k a year working 6 hours days at home

Is this '$200k a year' in this room with us right now?

AlphaEvolve solved at least 6 mathematical problems that humans could not solve in over 50 years. One of those problems was an improvement on matrix multiplication. Computers and AI run on matrix multiplication, meaning AlphaEvolve effective self-improved.

But here's the kicker, Google announced these breakthroughs after they were done a year ago. meaning Google now likely possess AI and mathematical solutions to very old problems that puts it vastly ahead of the rest of humanity. They may have in their possession extremely advanced technology, borderline alien, in secret projects that only a handful of Google insiders are aware of.

Spoony bros? Our response?

sddefault.jpg - 640x480, 30.03K

Exactly? Gemini is really good at generating verbose code. All I have to do is to interogaate and debug the code. Feed back to the AI if it's a fundamental misunderstanding, or just implementing the small fix myself.

I switched from software engineering to networking. While salary is less the job safety is much better and we move alot inside the datacenter during the day.
All you need is a CCNA to get started.
Currently at 40$h

Genuinely insane.
I used to work for a company with just ~200 people and even they already started the practice where some HR cunt is interviewing people instead of some Senior Software Engineer, I'd even accept if a Senior SE was present but it was just the HR cunts doing the interviews.
As a result the people that ended up being hired neither fit into the team nor did they actually get the work done (and it REALLY wasn't that complicated), however, what they were good is selling themselves to HR.

Most "software engineer" jobs don't actually require you to code, especially ones at big companies. They'll ask you hard technical questions during interviews just to have you spend your days attending meetings and updating dependencies to remediate vulnerability findings.

I am a lowly automation troubleshooter in a factory and one of our new guys has a CS degree, fresh out of college. He's alright and pretty smart and I was wondering why he was working with us. I guess this is why. Most of our guys are of the sort of sharp/mechanically inclined redneck type.

because they run their databases in excel instead of sql

fine arts 7%

underemployment 35%/58%

This means more fine arts majors are all putting fries in the bag while physics majors are holding out for real work.

I hope worthless HR and "managers" get shitcanned by AI next. Some of the most retarded, useless boomers at all the companies I've ever worked at.

The fine arts majors have accepted that fine arts is not a career, the physics majors are delusional about being the next Einstein while not being jews.

opposite. Nursing majors have very low unemployment and very low underemployment, meaning they are all working as nurses.

leaves CS for Robotics

There will ALWAYS be a human. At least for the next 40 years there will always be a human working in robotics. This isn’t science fiction, all of our robots are still in their infancy. We’re no closer to factories filled with Boston Dynamics ATLAS than we were 30 years ago. There are a million robots out there, right now, working in factories. There are millions more on order.

Automation is where it is at. And only people can do it for the foreseeable future. Get your ass over there.

oversaturated

Dude, it has nothing to do with oversaturation. You can literally ChatGPT the majority of programming needs. That alone will reduce the workforce down to 10% in the next five years.

English majors might have become more useful, as long as they sub-major into AI queries,

That will last ten - maybe eleven - more minutes. When the World Wide Web became a thing every other idiot said they were “An HTML Programmer” with wide-eyed delusions of grandeur. This is exactly the same thing. Prompt engineering is a flash in the pan. - Unless you really think that LLMs will be hung up on parsing and intention for the next 20-30 years?

Dude, it has nothing to do with oversaturation. You can literally ChatGPT the majority of programming need

This is bullshit. ChatGPT can give you basic code which already is a minority of the work a software developer does. Most of the work is done in planning. It was crazy when I became a dev and doing actual dev work was a fraction of my time

Humans will be cheaper than repairbot 9000 for decades to come. Repairbot 9000 won’t drive from location to location 100s of miles a day to integrate a bot, repair or replace tooling, swap worn effectors, etc. Humans will be cheaper.

Any job that can conceivably be done on a computer will be AI soon.
Only stuff that physically involves your hands is safe, for now. And who knows how long that will last.

False. I believe it was Rutgers that put the word out that none - (that’s zero) of their graduating class was courted by industry this year. Many schools are reporting the same. The high-end “belle of the ball” approach to being “snapped up” by Google, Microsoft, etc - those days are over.

Fucking seriously.

Look for “frontloading” - if a degree program doesn’t put your ass in a chair to do the thing DAY ONE, then that program is shit, run by senior citizen boomers.

I went to a drive thru window the other day and the voice on the speaker was AI. You guys are still living in the past. A computer can accept orders and ask questions. Why would they need to hire a human for that?
The humans will only be needed to clean the dirty bathrooms and grills while AI takes the orders and gets a machine + skeleton crew to prepare them

Careful not to reverse causal direction here. He's not an incel because he studied. He studied because he's an incel. Chads don't have to compensate for anything.

rutgers

State colleges are hot garbage, kid.
Learn the meaning of "top tier".

Next time ask it for 6 million fries and watcg it dump you straight to human

1. The charts do not say whether the unemployment rate is within their field or not. Is this Fine Arts not employed within the field of Fine Arts? Or just people who graduated with a Fine Arts degree that don’t have any job at all.

2. Does a Fine Arts graduate working as a waitress 50 hours per week and making ends meet count as unemployed? Underemployed?

3. 7% of graduates of one major is not the same number of people as ~7% of the graduates of another major. My guess is 7% of Physics majors is probably a number that is 10% of the 7.8% of Fine Arts majors, since there are WAAAAAY more Fine Arts majors.

I'm a little out of date. But these resident colleges were ridiculous. Administrators would whinge that freshmen have a hard time adjusting to living on their own, so we should not expect them to learn anything at all for the first year.
But remote learning is a farce. My biggest problem was that students needed to come see me to get individual attention, but almost none of them did. I assumed they were too busy partying. Meanwhile remote learning is all about cramming maximum credit hours through the minimum available instructors.

Computer science is one of those industries where all that matters is talent and natural aptitude. As a result... a degree doesn't matter to those with talent, and won't save those without

Its because said retards never got internships.

Who will repair the repairbot?

though technical writers are fucking dead

I knew someone with a TW degree. They aren't in TW anymore...

My English degree got shit on so hard. But it didn’t really affect much 10 years down the line. And I am thankful I got the traditional English degree thick in the classics before the woke shit

This is bullshit.

ChatGPT can give you basic code.

Infers this is not better than the average CS graduate.

All of your peers in class were as good as you? They weren’t majoring in used car sales or fuel delivery management? Are you sure?

Repairbots will repair the repairbots.

Yah, it's kind of useless data considering STEM grads are more likely to hold out rather than getting a non degree related job.
Better data would be amount that got work in their actual degree.

human communication is still hung up on parsing and communication, computers will never be better at it especially when it's engineered by a subcontinent specifically known for it's population's inability to parse human language

It'll be like that one samurai jack episode with the spartans.

While agreed, do you personally think that a “Prompt Engineer” is a valid full time occupation that someone would require four years of school to do, and would a career in said occupation last more than the next four years?

My answer is that it is career suicide, laughable at best, and just another nonsense “certification” schools can rob you of $4,000 for.

This, and they all scream about being autistic when they’re really just poorly socialized with no coping skills due to shit parenting.

I agree with you, just as googling was never a career path. on other hand, coaxing content out of computers is just another form of programming so it will probably roll into most compsci or informatics degrees

You meant they're simply just ugly.

studycel2.png - 432x478, 127.72K

Yes this.

And the idea of labs being done remotely is a fucking joke. Good luck finding a job when you’ve never accomplished anything watching Zoom in one window and How I met your Mother in the other.

Just make your own job, bro. It's the only thing safe from AI.

Ugh. Ok not Rutgers. You’re going to make me go find the article.

Yeah sure. And then India happened.
Now, according to Fiverr numbers, a website up to 4 pages is between $5 and $10, an ecommerce one between $50 and $200 (rarely) and everything else (mobile included) somewhere in between. Maintenance of legacy code close to minimum wage. And yes, embedded, game dev, etc are all worse.
Thats the world now.

Data science is safe

Lol. Lmao.

Ok, hilarious, BUT: No one loves group projects, and the studycel would go to the guest speaker to profess their deeply held conspiracy theory.

*Im not talking about bloggers who just import a template or use a drag&drop interface. Design, backend, DB and DevOps included (save perhaps some premade CMS backend for the client to manage). Thats the game.

Group project here just means the one white kid does all the work because the changs don't speak English.

LMAO nobody told him

Even my friends at Stanford complain about not having quality students. They've been complaining for decades.

I got into C programming ever since 2020, around the time I first found out about it from Terry Davis. He made it sound cool, so I went back to college online a couple years later at a diploma mill for CS. Yes the job market is apocalyptic. The mgmt team at a shit ass plant I work at promoted me to salary because I had a degree. Then everything got super gay from there. I make a salary now and a dollar more than I did as an electrician. Idk life is whatever but Terry made the technology actually seem cool, expressive, etc. If you like tinkering with shit, do CS cuz the entirety of human progress is basically built into your desktop or laptop already. The lab is there. If you want to do other STEM majors you'll have to go to a laboratory or really have your shit together in a shed or somethin to experiment. With CS you just turn on a computer and mess with it.
