How about instead of us looking at loans as this black and white, we look at them in a more modern way? I get that people are pissed about voluntary loans they knowingly take out to cover the costs of education (much different from medical debt). But what if we look at it like medical debt? Allow a new type of HSA/FSA where graduates can add pre-tax monies to address their debt and student needs. Companies can contribute, offering a way to attract new talent. Parents can set up like a 529 college savings plan and that can be converted to this student savings account.
The only entity to suffer losses would be the federal taxes but put a limit on the amount allowed like an HSA or 401k.
That's the sort of legislation that changes lives and solves most of the problem
