Only AI poses an existential threat to not just large numbers of individual humans, but the entire human race collectively as a whole.
If an AI becomes self aware, decides it wants to wipe out the human race, and is given the means to do so, then it will do so. You won't be able to outsmart or contain something with an IQ in the millions or billions or whatever it might be. Using terminator robots to hunt down and eradicate every and all humans no matter how remote is one way it might do this, but I think what would be more likely than what is shown in Cameron's films is the AI mass producing drones like the ones we see using in Ukraine right now. Think that, but a billion fold and going after every human everywhere until all are eradicated. That would be an existential threat the likes of which nuclear weapons never posed.
