It feels like Google from 10 years ago. The fact that it's a bit "dumber" and doing an actual search on the index with simple ranking (based on links to the page) meanss it feels much better than the "AI" and results that are heavily manipulated with Google. And I'm sure that the Russian government probably gets them to censor results, but I don't actually care that much about Russia. One thing I've noticed is that if you're searching in English for things like say Jews, the results are a lot less censored. I've found great things while searching for JFK assassinated related links to the tribe that you won't find on Google. Now maybe they censor terms in Russian for the same stuff? I don't know. It might be the same thing with China where, they only care about censoring things for their own citizens who use these services. It's a tool, so use it and take what you can get. DuckDuckGo is owned by a Jew and forgive me of being sceptical of Jews who offer me services for free. It's like porn, I just don't trust them.

Even their image search is better. Because I noticed that with Google they've deliberately put some kind of bias in even that, where if you search for something even by image they want you to see commercial results (like products for sale) which is the kind of thing they can slap ads on. But it's got to such a stage where, the dumber image based hash search is better if you just want to find the actual source of something because you want it to be based on a visual similarity.

To me there definitely seems like there's a gap in the market here, with someone just not trying to make the search too "clever", it's Google search from the early 2010s, it's still using something simple like page rank, it might be doing some machine learning (based on what users ultimately click on, to try to derive the: "ah for these terms, you liked this result, I will learn to prioriste that (increase the rank a tiny tiny bit). But there is zero "AI" slop, where it's trying to use LLMs or other nonsense to "normiefy" your query, essentially inferring things from it based on how other idiots search. A little "you probably meant this" was fine, like when you make a clear mistake and got the name wrong. But taking it too far, and trying to drive it too hard to politically correct results, commercial results. It means when you want to just research something, it becomes unusable.

No, they have their own crawler (DuckDuckBot) to collect an index. It might feel like they get their results from elsewhere because they also have a hyrbid approach of trying to figure out what you're trying to get an answer for and tailoring a source for it, so if you search for a restaurant, they'll promote tripadvisor, likewise sports will use sportsradar, general people search might use wikipedia. As biased as these things are (like wikiepedia) it's only really to try to get the answer quickly and place it at the top of the results you can still see their index results below it.

Because Google and most other search engines heavily censor results. Search for political or "controversial" topics using either engine and see waht results you get. With Google, Bing, etc. you get nothing but Reuters, AP, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, The Guardian... MSM propaganda nonsense all affirming the same establishment propaganda. Or worse curated Reddit threads by bots affirming the same things.

The Pajeet problem is also at Google. A guy like Sundar is going to see things like changing results to favour people selling stuff as good for this quarter. It will make the line go up as they tweak it in that direction. But a white man will understand that hey, the results are why Google overtook Yahoo in the first place was that Yahoo also fell for this same trick, where businesses were willing to pay to promote results. And the more you go in that direction, the less useful the search is. People will naturally migrate when they see something is better.

Yandex has started getting worse, especially the reverse image search. The only reason it's better than google is because google has been getting worse at a faster rate.
Unironically duckduckgo which uses bing as a base tends to give me better results than both. The absolute state of search engines, give it a few years and they'll all die and be replaced by chatgpt and other chatbots at this rate.
