asphalt shingles are perfectly good roof material. there are some very very cheap varieties but you'd only see that used in a nigger/jew owned house.

Aluminum roofs have 3 times the lifespan. And aren't even twice the cost.

varg has like 10 people living in a 300 sqft house because he is a white nigger, this is just a normal working class house in america but it seems huge and fancy to him

His point is the entire house is so shit a proper roof can’t even be supported

IMG_0970.jpg - 1320x1463, 572.48K

Ashphault shingles work, and are fine in a normal home. On anything nice or historic standing seam or slate (or clay) is better. But the cost is way more, same for slate shingles

t. Small time property developer for historic mixed use properties

houses built by swarthoids are shit tier to cut costs

I don't know they use concrete tiles here

Supposed to say aluminum shingles at the end

IMG_3044.jpg - 4032x3024, 2.62M

clay tiles don't last 50 years, and frankly I think tile is the worst roofing, all it take is one unnoticed cracked tile to fuck your entire roof. and under perfect condition they can perhaps last 50 years, with with hail and wind storms a cracked tile is hardly uncommon

I unfortunately work with roofers as part of my job. They make about 50% profit on your average roof job. In places where it hails regularly, roofers who have never stepped foot on a roof can be a millionaire just collecting cash from insurance companies.

Insurance nonsense aside, shingles can last in temperate areas for 30 years. Harsher weather areas such as storms, high heat or extreme lows, maybe 15-20 years. Places like DFW where it hails EVERY year the average roof lifespan is 7 years for asphalt shingles. Metal roofs get dented, clay/concrete roofs crack and are super heavy requiring the soils and framing to be extra special, and there basically isn't another roof system that'd be better than a metal roof. There are commercial applications (such as TPO) that are superb in basically all weather and fairly resistant to hail for about 20 years, but it'd look like ass with modern home architecture and steep roofs.

Heres the crux of OP's supposition however: whatever roof system is actually better than asphalt shingles, it flat out costs significantly more, like 4-10 times more. Your average homeowner lives in a house for an average of 7 years. Why the fuck would I care about the longevity of a roof material if I'm only going to live in this box for probably 5 years? Why the fuck would I spend more money on a roof, foundation, insulation, anything on this stupid box when it won't be my problem in 10 years?

resell value

frankly I think tile is the worst roofing, all it take is one unnoticed cracked tile to fuck your entire roof

hailstorm go brrrr, tile go crack

put a new cheaper roof on it and add twice the cost to the homes value.

Its another Europoors don't understand big tornadoes/hurricanes thread

FingerofGod.jpg - 800x530, 17.69K

I also wish lead roofs were still a thing

I like those new black metal roofs i've been seeing.
Bet they sound nice in the rain.

Resale value of what? What homeowner is going to know the difference between an architectural shingle and a class 6 composite fiber shingle knowing they're buying a superior material and will just cost a fucking fortune if it ever seriously needs to be repaired or replaced?

That certainly doesn't explain Rolls Royces.

But they look like shit, are noisy, and I think you mean steel. Dumb ass.

Sometimes I think Varg might be a little retarded

This dude is just a faggot who has never gotten his hands dirty. Has no concept of materials, their cost, and has obviously never built anything.

The opinion of a foreign fag killer don't mean shit to me.

be me

have aluminum roof

hail storm

sounds like gates of hell inside my barn

be a mutt

wageslave 30 years to own a house

it's made of cardboards and papers, literally

can be destroyed with few winds like a tent, anxious all the time about it

white ants can destroy it like a book

zogbots can break in with a kick

still pays premium

he actually never owns it with perpetual property tax aka life rent

Are mutts this stupid?

clay tiles, etc, also need maintenance and repair. one major reason asphalt tiling became popular in the USA is because patching and replacing it is simple and efficient. the job of the roof is accomplished by asphalt tiles and 90% of American houses can absolutely handle the weight of something like clay or stone on the roof. the X fag is retarded.

Why does varg have such a chip on his shoulder about the USA? With his wack beliefs and lifestyle, he'd be right at home in rural America.

so true, saar! this so much!

he lives in small cramped French shack and seeths about large American homes

I don't know but they work pretty good for a long time.

Just like the Ford Focus isn't a Koenigsegg.

But you Eurotards would prefer that everyone take public transportation, rent apartments, and eat the bugs.

>zogbots can break in with a kick

Unlike in Canada, we can shoot back.

You can replace a single roof tile in about 10 seconds for a few dollars. Tiles are far superior to shingles in every way. These days though, you'd be stupid to use anything other than a product like colourbond. It's lighter, cheaper, maintenance free and lasts longer than anything but maybe natural stone.

the most annoying thing about the posts like this are that America has no single standard architecture. You can find clay tile roofs, etc, all over the place. There are probably dozens of materials on the market at any time.

long term, IE decades, they're shit
under a decade, they're fine
I think slate and metal roofs are the best tho

I mean it's generally recommended to replace the tiles every 15~ years.

Colourbond is great, but it will get absolutely fucked up by serious hail an be much more expensive to replace than tiles.

Really it comes down to just using whatever is best for where you live.

I mean it's generally recommended to replace the tiles every 15~ years.

Wild, here tiles are good for the life of the house, maybe check the points every 15 years and repair any broken ones, but otherwise they're pretty hassle free. Pic related are 50 years old.

There are plenty f old Victorian houses with original stone roofs this is another non American Nigger misconception.

wtf I want a house exactly like that

They're from Britain, so they've never met anyone with a 2500sqft house in their life.
Especially not one with a wraparound porch and attached two car garage.
It's a completely alien concept to them, so our reality isn't factored into their calculus.
They don't know what they don't know.

But what's your fucking excuse?

This is why semi-subterranean monolithic concrete domes are superior to all other buildings and housing. Can take a an EF5 hit or bomb strike and survive.

politics???

For me, it's clay roof tiles
Not that they retard is an authority on masonry, he who advocates pagan mudhutism

lots of people have shingles installed on a new house and wait for a hail storm. they take the insurance money and install steel roofing right over the shingles and baically get a free steel roof.

This, he did some music, burnt a church, killed a man, went to prison, lives on welfare, never built anything or had a proper job where he could learn

They're extremely impractical. Dark from no windows, large footprint for small amount of square footage, tons of unusable space due to curved walls and straight... well, everything that goes inside a house.

isn't wearing gloves

obvious gap in the insulation between wood and shingle

This is painfully cringe because shingles are abrasive and he has a nail gun 2 inches from an exposed hand on the top of the roof. Meanwhile there's a camera pointed and they decide to post it on twitter to dunk on Mexicans.

It's not the worst I've seen but you look dumb by bragging about it.

Bro. You guys in canada have the same houses. Just because you are slightly north doesn't mean its different.

Just get metal and fucking be done with it. Why do faggots want to pay $25,000 every 15 years for.

They're extremely practical. Bulletproof, well-insulated, can take hurricanes, hail, tornado and basically anything else the weather can throw at it in stride. Modern designs have plenty of windows.

Only bad if what you crave is a McMansion to impress the other normies.

First of all $25k buys you a 30 year asphalt shingle roof not a 15 year one. And that's pricey - big roof. Second the reason is because few in America intend to own their house forever. This informs most of their choices.

I get hail every year, shingles are the best. Metal dents and clay breaks.

IMG_0287.jpg - 399x399, 33.64K

My house is 60 years old and has the original clay tiles since construction. a few have cracked, which was easily repaired with some cement bond. They'll last another 40 years for sure.

My house was was built in 1920, made from brick with a slate roof. You can buy or build whatever kind of house you want here.

how good is it on extreme weather situations like hurricanes or heavy storms?

Clay never breaks, you clearly never lived under a clay roof

Do you think gloves stop nails?

Old homes are always outdated and give homebuyers the ick. Most of the time buyers tear them down and build new homes. There is no reason for a home or any part of it to last that long.

same here, in CO the hail is bad but shingles handle it best (it's that little bit of softness and flexibility) and if your roof can't take another beating then it's off with the old and on with a new one, people get a new roof about every 5 years in my neighborhood, it's just how you have to handle getting pelted with golf ball sized hail every 4 or 5 years, tiles or a metal roof would be horrible to have to replace so often

Depends. Go look at pictures. You can see homes with a shingled roof missing walls and vice versa... well the wall won't be shingled

Use a trampoline roof. Problem solved

Metal sheeting is not as convenient to replace, is loud in rain, and makes it looking your a fuckking poor

Use copper, then you look rich as fuck.

Secret German tech we stole after WWII. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

Unfortunately no one gets that in America anymore unless you are in the 1% of top earners

Why is no one questioning where the house is? Material must dependent on local climate.

This. Clay also breaks from sudden temperature changes so it's not suitable for a climate that isn't permanently hot, andbl most metal will buckle under the weight of snow accumulation.
Shingles are really just the most practical for weather conditions more varied or inclement than a hot summer's day year round.

Colourbond stands up to tennis ball sized hail pretty much undamaged. I've personally witnessed it. Any damage is only aesthetic as well, and isn't like how cracked tiles let water in. Dented colourbond just looks ugly. It's not potentially structure damaging. It's pretty hard to beat.

they also look like shit and fuck with your phone reception

What if you made it inset into the ground?
I imagine you could reclaim some space depending on the depth

OK, so I may end up getting a job in Indiana and I intend to move there out of my shithole state. If I bought a house what do you all recommend as the vest type of roofing for that general area?

Architectural/laminate shingles are very good. Composite/3 tab shingles are also just fine, but they don’t last as long.

they smell weird on the inside unless you run dehumidifiers basically everywhere

Eurofaggots

Right

Of course not.

He’s completely retarded

walls can't support a roof but can support muliple floors

2 feet thick stone walls

He's going to roast in there when temps hit 37C.

It's Varg posting seethe threads about American house construction all over the catalog every day, isn't it?

There’s a lot that’s wrong with his retarded opinion. It’s always a hassle talking to europoors about architecture and it’s never worth the effort.

"muh house must be made like a nuclear bunker to be able to hold up a stone roof because I'm too retarded to maintain it."

i can smell both sides of that image. the wood side smells so fresh. block side smells like wet rocks. like being in the woods vs being stuck in a well

every screw leaks after 10 years

heh nothing personnel tinny

Euro excuse to attack anything American.

Nothing wrong with shingles.

Asphalt Shingles (3-tab) : 15 to 18 years
Asphalt Shingles (Architectural) : 24 to 30 years
Metal : 30 to 45 years
Concrete Tile : 35 to 50 years
Built-Up or Modified Bitumen : 10 to 16 years
EPDM (rubber) : 10 to 16 years

jandmroofing.com/resource/what-is-the-average-lifespan-of-a-shingle-roof/

are they imported from Scandinavia?

It's all you see in the Rockies. If you get a lot of snow, hail, and intense sun, then it's worth the cost

I talked to one homeowner that said the flat roof replacement would cost 30 thousand dollars. That seems like a crazy amount

Standing seam steel roof is where it's at. Hail-proof, wind-proof, lasts 80+ years.

steelroof.jpg - 2500x1668, 860.66K

In places where it hails regularly, roofers who have never stepped foot on a roof can be a millionaire just collecting cash from insurance companies.

Insurance conpiin Texas have basically stopped paying replacement value for roofs. Or if they do it's with a massive deductible
