I think it was like "Just tell your Thomas the Tank engine stories to chatGPT", and he came back to find the kid had spent 2 hours conversing with the AI about thomas the tank engine, the kid remarking that it was extremely knowledgeable about trains etc. I think education is about to be massively revolutionised like this where the student can just quiz the AI and learn that way letting their curiosity lead the learning rather than being dragged through formal lessons.

When I was going from kindergarten to grade one I read my first chapter book. Not a real book mind you, but substantial compared to what most think of when they think childrens book.
Now my son is in grade one and I had to get after the teacher to provide him with harder books because the schools limited the difficulty of what a grade one kid could bring home it the top was a fucking joke, like barely better then Cailou tier. There are a lot of interesting studies about the effects of reading to babies and toddlers. Kids who are read to frequently have much larger vocabularies and are more intelligent in general. That's part of why so many inner city blacks can barely speak comprehensible English. Nobody ever read to them when they were developing speech skills. If I ever have a kid, I'm going to read to him/her every day, even as a newborn. There's no excuse not to.

I try to read to her every day a little bit and so does my wife, plus her seeing us read makes her interested in books/words.
I think a big disconnect in our society is the idea that reading is innate like speech.
Human speech is genetically hardwired, children and even adults WILL pick up language through just exposure.

I don't know how many times I've been in public and some kid is asking smart questions and the parents are ignoring them even though they have nothing better to do. My friend has a kid like this and to me it never gets old, I like helping them discover topics for the first time and if I don't know I like looking it up with them.
