It depends on the thread. If it's a good one I'll stay in it for as long as it holds my interest. If not then I just return to catalog and look for something else. I hate having a ton of tabs open, so when a thread slows down with responses I just exit.

Most start out dead, with 15 minutes between posts.
It seems pointless to wait too long.
Some are full of idiots, so it's best to just leave.
Every once in a while, you will get an actual conversation going where there are multiple people trying to add to it, even if not agreeing, while NOT engaging in a dick measuring contest.
