The landlord tried to up the rent on my best friend and he moved out, the other guy was, sadly, dumb enough to do a bunch of repairs on the house for free because he figured since he's going to be living there with his wife and kids for a while he might as well fix it up. Horrible mistake. The landlord booted them like 6 months later and sold the house once he realized someone finally came around and fixed most of the shit that would have prevented him from selling for a decent price. This is another problem with renting, you're disincentivized from improving your own living space and forced to live in basically whatever conditions the landlord, who doesn't live there, doesn't know you, and doesn't give a single fuck about you, decides you get to live in, because if you do improve your conditions all you did was waste of a bunch of time, money, and effort to make someone else rich and you will be rewarded by having to search for someone else to rent from for likely more money and worse conditions. Renting a home is 100% the work of the devil and can only exist the way it does now in a collapsing society.
