If you drunk drove without incident there wouldn't be a problem. If you're not swerving, going the speed limit, and nothing seems wrong there's no reason to be pulled over.
And I have drove drunk so many times I can't even count. It's hundreds of times.
But I've never been pulled over because I drive more carefully when I'm drunk. Because I know I'm drunk.
I go the speed limit no swerving, blinkers, I do everything right. Never had an accident, never had a problem.
But then I'm a really good driver, and highly intelligent such that when I'm drunk, my friends can't tell I've had anything to drink.
I handle it well some people don't and can't drive.

I spent a few years as a chronic alcoholic and never hit shit. Could parallel park my car completely wrecked. Eventually the fuzz got me because I stayed up partying all night with strangers who kicked me out at 6am. Left phone in my hotel room and couldn't remember where it was but home was 40 minutes away. Nabbed me a few blocks from home after I made a sloppy left turn. But to answer the question no, being lax on drunk driving requires a higher trust more intelligent society. But I think the first one should be a slap on the wrist with no jail time because EVERYONE has had to get themselves home while pushing the line at some point. I don't drink much anymore btw and think it's gross.

DUI checkpoints are blatantly unconstitutional and should be banned.
They're also less effective at preventing accidents and prioritize revenue generation over safety. A dozen cops stopping every driver on one road could instead watch a dozen roads for more dangerously drunken drivers.

Currently in most states 0.08 BAC is the "impaired" level where if your blood comes back past that point after arrest, you're fucked. A lot of states even have "DUI per se" laws that state you can be DUI even if you come back below 0.08 BAC depending on the circumstances (driving like shit, if you hit somebody/something, etc). Most states also have special clauses in the law about truck drivers, where they can't be above a 0.04 BAC or else they're default presumed DUI. A lot of states are starting to push for 0.04 to be the new standard for regular drivers, too. Some states have already passed 0.04 BAC as the new standard for presumption of DUI.
DUI is fucking stupid, don't do it. You can throw your entire life away, and someone else's. I worked an internship as a court clerk when I was 20, saw tons of DUIs and they really fuck you in the ass depending on how bad it was and if they've seen you before. One old nigger got 2 DUIs in less than 3 months and the judge took his license away for a year, she wouldn't even let him have an interlock. People have to work and get around in America, so dude drove again anyway and got caught, got arrested, and went to prison for violation of probation. I think he was like 50, they don't fuck around with this stuff anymore.
I've only lived in three states and two both have checkpoints banned. One by law and one by state constitution. Never seen one where I live now but I don't drink anymore anyway

That wouldn't work in the US. While there's a lot of 'back roads', some routes require using the highways. Where I grew up towns are 20 miles apart and all have multiple bars. People make loops between a few towns or have a 'home' bar.

You get better at anything you practice. The issue with driving after drinking is reaction time and nothing else if you're an actual drinker. Why do you think the most common arrests are young people who haven't done it much rather than the occasional hardcore that has multiple and keeps getting caught?
