If god lets bad things happen then god is either not all powerful or not benevolent.
If god lets bad things happen then god is either not all powerful or not benevolent
Interesting.
Do you ever let bad things happen?
Bad from whose perspective?
I remember being 15.
Some would ask, how could a perfect God create a universe filled with so much that is evil. They have missed a greater conundrum: why would a perfect God create a universe at all?
bad like cancer
if you don't believe in YHWH you can't say stage 4 cancer is bad
What if you mistakenly think they are bad things but actually they are good things that you just don’t fully understand yet
If you want to understand the Christian response to your thread, watch this video.
Hard mode: don't just read the title and kneejerk respond like a zoomer with the attention span of a goldfish would, but instead watch the whole thing.
He is all-powerful
no that sounds retarded and im not watching a 20 min video
The fact that God created short men is proof that God is a sadistic asshole.
how is the existence of cancer or 1 billion indians and chinese a good thing?
Is tough love not benevolent?
Then I expect your ID will remain 1pbtid in this thread, since you clearly are not interested in the conversation.
so god is just evil?
child rape is good!
death to all christkikes
Not only that, but the Demiurge put jews on earth to help create the suffering from which it feeds.
most bad things that happen aren't gods fault
most of the bad things that happen are purely the fault of humans fucking around and finding out
If god lets bad things happen then god is either not all powerful or not benevolent.
Omnibenevolence is not canon.
"And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people." Exodus 32:14
This why I’m agnostic I believe people of souls but god if he exists doesn’t interact with society. I hate atheists too because they’re liars and you have to lie to spread beliefs it’s probably wrong.
...or...you misunderstand what God is.
Non duality.
The Bible is pretty up front about how God operates. God is kind and merciful. God is also jealous and wrathful. These things are not contradictory.
God believes in free will and an immeasurable love for humanity, which is why Jesus sacrificed himself for us on the cross
God: Don't do this or bad things will happen
Man: I'm going to do it anyways
Some time later...
Man: WTF?! How could this be happening?!?!?! WHY GOD LET BAD THING HAPPEN???
so if hes evil what you gunna do about it lil frog boy?
But why does god allow bad things to happen?
You are God. Everybody is a product of your perception. Everybody is living in different unfinute alternate realities. Consciousness is the source of everything. You can change everything around you based on perception even other people, you only affect that person in their alternate reality. Everything has been done and you're already dead. Time doesn't exist and you live forever. Your human form is not your true form. You are a spirit controlling a physical body. An illusion. Life is basically a dream. You die you wake up and realize this, then you think suffering isn't that bad and you come for more, you come back to experience what it's like to not know everything, to take risks when risk is an illusion you created.
But why does an all powerful being feel the need to feel that way?
If it took literally zero effort as I have infinity power, time, and thinking ability? Yes I would never let bad things happen.
Um actually babies born only knowing a short life of suffering is a good thing
Don't question the book dude, he's good because...he just is okay? He told me so. He wouldn't lie because he's good! It can't be bullshit made up by humans because the book said it wasn't
Actually it's just to toughen you up or punish you. Ignore the evil with no bad things in their life and the objectively good with plenty of bad things in their life and vice versa, indicating literally no rhyme or reason
These copes are all braindead. Why do you make excuses? If god is incompatible with logic and reason, you must reject god, not reject reason.
Why do you feel anything? You're made in God's image.
But what about bad things not out of free will and why does free will allow for the capacity to be evil?
or that God knows something we mere mortals can't comprehend
If everyone is made in gods image does that include niggers and jeets?
Suffering is lifting for the soul, no gains without pain.
it's to do with giving us free will
why would god give us free will?
obviously it serves some kind of purpose
likely existence is some kind of test of our souls
how can our souls be tested?
by giving us free will and allowing us to decide to act badly to each other or act goodly to each other
god didn't shoot up that grocery store
some idiot human did
presumably god doesn't intervene because that idiot human will be judged on his actions later
otherwise everybody would get to go to heaven
she shouldn't of looked at the salt nuke god dropped
It is what it is, OP. Even death or losing love. It is what it is.
do you at least get to use your awesome GM powers for fun after you die?
becoming a boring human with all sorts of desires that are never going to get fulfilled seems pretty shitty otherwise
God should of just put us in the hedonistic boxes of self jerkoff and drugs thread number 1000000
If everyone is made in gods image does that include niggers and jeets?
Presumably so, since mankind is apparently descended from a single couple. However, there are a number of interesting questions regarding Genesis particularly in the story of Cain. When Cain is cursed for murdering his brother he expresses fear that the people in the Land of Nod will kill him.
Seth was born after the murder, so who was Cain afraid of? Just food for thought.
Is there freewill in heaven?
Yes?
Then it's possible to have freewill without evil. Making creating earth unnecessary.
No?
Then what was the point of giving us freewill in the first place if it wasn't some form of "ultimate good" that made evil worth it
If bad things dont happen then how does your creation adapt and become stronger? Would you really want to be the father of a bunch of petulant cry babies who always get their way and have no deep introspection of their own lives?
Whats the point of all that instead of just making a world without evil and allow everyone to be happy?
if your kid stole a gun and robbed a store and shot the clerk, should you be charged with robbery and murder?
Better question: What's the point of creating meat robots that don't have agency?
Its because happiness is a false goal. The ultimatum of life isnt your personal joy, its purpose itself, your meaning. Life is given to you, you must put back into it.
If we go to heaven after the "test" what's the purpose of the test? He already knows who would pass.
It's not like you're gaining some kind of skill like how to cope with suffering since there is no suffering in heaven.
It's all bullshit.
The Bible itself says most people go to hell.
How is that okay?
that chart is flawed, because 100% of women have no idea how big an inch is.
Perhaps this God isn't real, but something a bunch of schizophrenic Jews made up a long time ago?
You can still be purely good and have agency.
1. Just because God is omnipresent does not mean he won’t allow nature to take its course
2. Because ultimately it’s a choice to be evil, it wouldn’t be free will if you couldn’t make that choice. However, this does not mean the choice to be evil is free of consequence
you would have to ask god
And that was how it was, for a time, until the Fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil was consumed. The idea of the Fruit being an "apple" is a dangerous reductionism, and ignores the context of its origin. Sin is not possible unless you are capable of knowing what you are doing is wrong.
happy and evil are relative. How do you know that this world is not the pinnacle of happiness possible and that other versions the breadth of suffering is far more worse than you can imagine?
We have evidence that things died before humans ever existed
Kind of disproves the whole Adam and eve and Christianity narrative.
I am the arbiter of justice, I am the penultimate philosopher and can determine good from evil
Are you god then? What is evil when their is no god? What even is goodness? Explain how you derive morality
Im not even religious, just this line of thought is shit middle schoolers come up with, try harder
If god real why bad things happen?
Blah blah blah story about a woman who got shot but they found a tumor that would have killed her in a matter of weeks butterfly effect god works in mysterious ways etc etc time wasting pedantic bullshit
If you're going to be a philosopher at least be better than one with a box of crayons
I'm going to fuck whores and faggots and if I get STDs it's God's fault
I'm going to drink alcohol and consume meds while pregant, if my child comes out deformed it's God's fault
I'm going to jump off this bridge, and if I die it's God's fault
You're a nigger
God builds you a house
let it go to shit
If God was a good house builder and carpenter, then this house would have never fallen apart
How is that okay?
not saying it is, I'm just thinking logically about it
god gave us free will because reasons
people are bad to each other because reasons
those two things are probably related
Look dude, the story is an allegory that bunch of savage bronze age Jews told eachother. Taking it 100% literally is probably not wise.
Heres something that Ive thought about the tree and the fruit of knowledge of good and evil. Knowledge itself is the errosion of your frame, your world as you understand it. Paradise is lost because what mankind knows is too much to live in that frame. The thing erroding the modern world and its material paradise is knowledge itself and peoples frames becoming disillusioned.
Correct, because knowledge that is not tempered by wisdom is corrosive to the spirit.
Knowledge and truths are just mere realignments to reality itself. What you value regardless of knowledge is what can remain eternal.
god did build you a house
it's called planet earth
hasn't fallen apart yet
God is the consequences of my actions
You can't be fucking serious with this cope. You don't think bad things only happen to fools and the unrighteous. You're just hopelessly grasping for a world where your religion makes sense, ignoring all counterpoints like the fact that people got aids without even having sex from blood transfusions, and deformities happen without any predictable reason.
You know how easy it is to disprove you? If good people had less bad things happen to them, that's easily measured by a study.
Think 'whores' die more due to gods wrath? Normalize preexisting conditions and compare to christians. You'll therefore have proof of god.
Hint: This has been tried. Guess what the results were?
Or god created life and doesn’t intervene with day to day happenings. You can’t know what his plan is in the same way an insect doesn’t understand your plans
Orrrrr
Bad things serve a purpose behind our comprehension...
Your slipping anon. This is kinda an obvious rebuttal
babby wants his safe universe with no freedom or true variety
Reality is a product of our perception. Without human beings there is no idea of reality at all. The world may exist without us, but would have nothing to define it objectively. God is omnipotent. He either acts or does not act by choice. "Reality" is entirely malleable to Him, and thus not "reality" as we understand it.
The entire point is that God has given everything he has created free will. And when it comes to humans, if you exercise your free will in bad ways, then you will be punished in hell.
If God was pure good and allowed no wrong to ever happen then the standard to get into heaven would be non existent, thus making his power ultimately useless.
Mam won't write homework for me
I got F
Therfore Mam stupid or don't love me
Why wouldn't a benevolent god just tell us?
I'm really interested in knowing why he needs babies to die of cancer.
"You're just too dumb to be able to understand bro" is not a valid response.
The best reason I've seen given is just so he can show his power.
Which seems kind of narcissistic.
He created this world with a net positive of suffering just so he could show off.
That's not my opinion thats what the Bible says. It says most people go to hell and if you go to hell it would be better if you never existed.
So he's creating people that he admits would be better off if he didn't. Just to show off and flex his power.
Amazing. Trust the plan
Its only a product of our perception as much as our perception influences in how we interface with reality. Reality isnt stagnant. But its also so vast that our tiny little brains cant fit it all, so we focus on the most important aspect of reality that pertain to our immediate or highest priority. This is determined by value.
ye olde Eskimo question
Reminder that Hell is a later development in Christianity and even its name is derived from Nordic Paganism, like the English name "God" i.e. Godan/Odin. I encourage you to do some reading about Sheol rather than take what the Vatican tells everyone as absolute fact. Even the "Nine Circles of Hell" are fan fiction from Dante's works.
Maybe he just got bored and left
I'm really interested in knowing why he needs babies to die of cancer.
Who can say? Is it a product of sin? Is it a test? Is it an aversion of a worse outcome? It could be any of these things in any given example. We don't know.
"You're just too dumb to be able to understand bro" is not a valid response.
It's not that you're dumb, it's that as a human being your perception is limited. You can not know all things. For that matter, you can't even know most things.
Which seems kind of narcissistic.
Yes that often accompanies jealousy.
He created this world with a net positive of suffering just so he could show off.
Not exactly. In order for humanity to have free will it was given the opportunity to introduce suffering, which it did. Also murder.
So he's creating people that he admits would be better off if he didn't. Just to show off and flex his power.
You want to know what I think? God created people so He didn't have to be alone. It's that simple.
Indeed, and we do our best to bumblefuck our way through reality as we perceive it. Often not for the best.
For free will to exist there must be both good and evil, light and dark, yin and yang. Our ability to navigate the careless cruelty of reality with the blessing and curse of higher thought allows us to take action not solely based on our animalistic instincts but also the morality of our soul. For mankind is unique in that it is both beast, and divine. And our actions in this plane of existence will be judged in the next life.
Or maybe you chose not to believe that, and rather everything in existence is just an accident. That we evolved from inert materials that spawned into reality somehow. That’s fine. It doesn’t matter. All I know for certain, is that I know nothing. None of us do really. It’s all just fairytales. And in a thousand years, people will look at the most concrete scientific realities of today and view us as superstitious fools in the same vain we view the beliefs of people a thousand years in the past.
freewill comes with evil as a necessary consequence
Does God have freewill?
Is there freewill in heaven?
god made us because be was lonely.
That implies he was lacking something. Making him not perfect.
I don’t want to start any blasphemous rumours, but I think that god’s got a sick sense of humour and when I die, I expect to find him laughing.
This is why I'm a deist. Everyone assumes God is good or selfless. Or that he doesn't exist at all. God might actually be flawed just like we are. No good or bad will just experimenting. Or maybe we are some type of farm. The interesting thing about this is that there is a possibility he might return one day to check on his farm or to harvest some output he is expecting. Hell we might be food or something.
Does God have freewill?
Omnipotence implies so, as His agency is effectively to Do or Do Not. This must be a choice.
Is there freewill in heaven?
Don't know. Heaven is not extensively described.
That implies he was lacking something. Making him not perfect.
Is being lonely lacking in something? Perhaps...company? Maybe in order for God to be perfect we must exist. Interesting thought, eh?
Why don't you just read the book? You are like the guy who thinks he knows what Moby Dick is about because he's seen a lot of pop culture references his entire life.
christianity is fake evil religion
when zabieru come to japan to spread christianity he was refute by japanese commoner and run away because it is flawed religion
comments:
The Japanese have at their core the idea of eight million gods so even Jesus and Allah can't be more than "one god out of eight million gods," not the only god.
I asked the same question to a missionary and he said, "If you believe, your ancestors will be saved," and I said, "Well, I'll leave it to my descendants" and I was able to defeat him
What was hard for zabier about this story was that the people who refuted him were not intellectuals or anything like that, just peasants
And it was the Jesuits of the time who used Christian teachings for invasion.
Really, our ancestors who questioned the Christian teachings saved Japan
Q.Did your ancestors go to heaven?
A. (1) No, they did not
- Then your God is incompetent
(2) They did
- If that's the case, there's no need for baptism.
Easily destroyed
It's a wonder that we can't even do the bare minimum of "don't kill, don't steal, don't commit a crime" without making a promise to God.
The missionaries were kidnaping Japanese to Spain as slaves, and when Hideyoshi found out, he was furious, and he banned Christianity, which led to the expulsion
"If my ancestors are also going to hell for being non-Christian, then I won't be Christian either. I'll go to hell and live with them." I remember someone who said this
The missionary raised a white flag.
The more fundamental reason why it didn't catch on was
"The Japanese had good taste.
It boils down to this.
Christianity's omniscient and omnipotent God created human beings on his own accord, and then he says that he will save only those who believe in him.
And he says, "Repent of your sins!"
Makes no sense
They might have said, "What a stingy god who only saves those who believe in him." The Japanese gods and Buddhas who save all people are above.
Jesuits are Satanists and I'm sorry they were your first encounter.
bad things
humanity deserves it
500th problem of evil post
Can you lot come up with a better argument?
God cannot exist unless he aligns with my understanding of reality and morality
...or your definition of "bad" is just biased and/or incorrect.
Just because someone (you) don't like what's happening or disagree with it ... no matter what that happening is -- does not make it inherently bad. You struggle to admit that via your limited perspective, you don't know shit. It bothers you that that isn't true for a God.
That is why God is God and you are you. If you understood God, then you would be god (spoiler: not happening).
How do you know the outcome will ultimately be bad?
God made it in the first place.
Would rather it not exist?
who told you that
Seen this response ish early in the thread but who are you to judge things in their entirety? Evil’s supposedly that which is counter to the will of God, the stuff done by the Adversary, but also that Adversary is supposedly the means by which God makes greater goods. Ergo none of the Adversary’s works go against the will of God (they hung out and chatted over Job, for instance), ergo none of his works are evil, ergo nothing evil exists
The absolute truth about what is good or evil keeps changing. In the end my enemies are evil and I am not. Only the winners get to decide what truth is. This is just how it is. Everyone has their religions, their books, their way of life. And all sides fight and argue. The winners paint the picture for the future generations. Thats why I fear for the USA. They have abandoned most of their people which means their enemies will be coming soon and nobody is going to help them.
