As I understand it, they don't have many turbines or flywheels to restore the balance of electricity either, so the entire system can cascade to blackouts rather quickly.
Of course they're burying it, because this will cost the energy company millions of £££ in lost revenue for failure to provide a service and the government will lose out on tax revenue from that also. Lousy fuckers don't have a reverse gear so they're going to double down on net zero.

It was an accident, but the accident happened because of planned changes.
The problem is a lack of base load capacity and too many renewables that change their production with the weather.
Before the crash 80% of the energy production was from solar, allegedly some unexpected clouds arrived and this lowered the frequency of the grid enough to crash it.
Renewables are so incredibly stupid in so many ways, it's purely for political points, feel good points and ignorance that they are promoted so heavily.
There is nothing stopping the next crash from being Europe wide, and the longer the blackout is the more difficult it is to restart everything, if it lasts several days we might not even be able to restart it.
Solar PV should not be used at all for the main grid, wind should be used sparingly. Concentrated solar power is ok where the weather makes it economic, which really isn't in a lot of places.
