I thought we were supposed to be saving money?
I thought we were supposed to be saving money?
Who cares
It was probably some regulatory scam to allow China to get ahead
Idiot Joe Biden and the Democrats made everything work worse with these environmental regulations! MAGA!
It's a hilarious scam. Some dude on instagram who does appliance restorations proved it.
That would be the exact sentence you would hear in iowa
Because it doesn't save money, it only cuts the output of the device. It's not an efficiency saving, it's actually the opposite. A energy hungry, but rapid device uses less power than a less hungry, but slow to build device.
"Energy Star" is retarded as hell. Maybe for some old CRT monitors did this matter, but for things like Hot Water Heaters? It's a joke, always has been.
$500 billion since 1992
That's it?
Maybe for some old CRT monitors did this matter, but for things like Hot Water Heaters?
I use it for electronics and devices with motors (i.e. fans) but certain things just need to use lots of power and there's no avoiding that.
With that said, I cannot go much lower anymore. Even my laptop hooked up to a 2.1 system rarely exceeds 50W in consumption. That's down from my initial power consumption of nearly 1200W back when I only used hand-me-down hardware. That's lowered my electric bill substantially. The cost savings is now negligible to the point where it's basically indistinguishable from parasitic power draws from the various appliances in my home.
Some dude on instagram who does appliance restorations proved it.
People tend to use more efficient appliances more often because it doesn't do the job right the first time, which oftentimes negates the efficiency gain compared to an older, less efficient device.
One that I'm reminded of are condenser dryers. Apartments and landlords would install them because they were cheap to run, but if you ever lived in somewhere humid, your clothes would never be dry. They work in desert and high altitude locales better, but they're sold everywhere like they work anywhere like a resistive heater dryer. Lots of unhappy people with stinky, damp clothes.
For just $32 million a year, Energy Star helps American families save over $40 billion in annual energy costs
it's all a scam though somehow and doesn't actually work
I suspect it was an attempt to lower the demand pulse of duty cycling. It may have had some marginal impact on the grid, but like you said there is just a limit to it. The laws of thermodynamics demand it.
There is no point in any environmental initiative anywhere while the two largest countries are such giga-polluters.
I thought we were supposed to be saving money?
You replaced all those incandescent bulbs in your house with efficient LEDs? Are you paying less for electricity now?
It's like the minimum wage retards that say the minimum wage should be higher without considering what happens to the price of everything afterwards.
Nigger learn to read. I said it may work on some devices like old CRTs, but not for things like hot water heaters.
people only use water heaters and have no other electric devices in their house
I NEED BIG DADDY GOVERMENT TO REGULATE MY ENERGY USE
NEVER MIND THAT MY DISHWASHER TAKES 90 MINUTES... BIG DADDY TOOK 4 CENTS OFF MY POWER BILL
You are pathetic, servile faggots
no one is forcing you to buy a 5 star washer you stupid faggot
energy star are there to give consumers a choice
if you think it's BS then ignore it, but it obviously has proven saving benefits
maybe you can give than extra $32million you saved to ISrael
I suspect it was an attempt to lower the demand pulse of duty cycling.
It probably worked over the decades. It may be outliving its usefulness for certain sectors.
I do remember in the early 2000s where massive spikes in demand would just constantly knock out the grid in the summers and winters. The efficiency of HVAC appliances were atrocious (and still are) because they're completely oversized for the specified structure and that caused a lot of frequent cycling. Every spike needs a surge load and it really adds up.
You replaced all those incandescent bulbs in your house with efficient LEDs? Are you paying less for electricity now?
Wasn't a huge difference since I used natural light for the daytime, but I started from small CFLs so the efficiency gains weren't that huge. The big power consumer is the HVAC system. Even the fan consumes an enormous amount of power.
Most of my electricity bill comprises of access fees than power usage these days, so I do think the energy efficiency incentives worked really well.
Can't counter the argument so doesn't even attempt to try
What are you doing, anon?
my dishwasher takes 4 fucking hours on the setting that ACTUALLY gets the dishes clean
so I do think the energy efficiency incentives worked really well
For the power companies and grid operators so they don't have to invest in new infrastructure. You're using way less and still paying the same.
everything got much worse since they implemented that shit, notably washing machines.
There is also the factor of duty cycling at night vs daytime, given the variation in energy prices throughout the day.
It's one of those worked in some ways, but was wasteful in others kind of thing. It doesn't mean technology won't progress, given Energy Star is just a ratings system.
UL labeling is arguably far more important, given Underwriters Laboratories actually tests these devices thoroughly.
Are your power bills less today than they were before this was implemented?
Answer: No
You've been saving money while losing earning power. They have been earning more for their brilliant ideas. Eat the bugs
Nigger put fucking soap in the dishwasher you stupid faggot.
but I did
For the pre wash cycle you fucking idiot.
Energy Star helps American families save over $40 billion
When will they deposit these savings into out savings accounts?
energy ratings are all a scam
why did we ever bother to progress past filament bulbs
Every bit we save on electricity is made up for in hiked up energy prices anyway. It's pointless.
That was technological supplication, which has nothing to do with energy star ratings. Your argument might hold water if the ratings led to more efficient incandescence. But alas.....
When will they deposit these savings into out savings accounts?
do... do you understand the concept of being charged less for something?
Your savings are still in your account.
In many cases it's like 1-ply toilet paper. It uses less material per sheet, but you end up using twice as many sheets to do the job.
Great, it will lower manufacturing costs that will never be passed along to the consumer.
Spending less is not saving
Good on Trump for getting rid of these stupid programs and regulations.
I would love to have a toilet that doesn't clog every fucking time I take a dump, and an air conditioning system that keeps the house cool and doesn't have to get replaced every five years because "we're phasing out R-12/R-134/R-416/R-20975236617 this week due to Honeywell wanting to make more profits off replacement systems".
Build some fucking nuclear power plants, and increase water usage fees so people don't waste the water. Having a fucking working toilet would cut the number of times I have to flush the damn thing by 80%, and I'm not even exaggerating. EVERY FUCKING TIME I take a shit the toilet clogs.
A energy
Stopped reading here
They're going to take away our private toilets and limit us to 15 minute shitties in a shared bathroom of our rented Obamapod. They will enact Common Sense Shit Control as part of their Net Zero shitting agenda, where our diets will be precisely regulated so that all shits break off clean and require no toilet paper.
This is what saving money looks like you stupid faggot. I don’t need the government analyzing dishwashers for efficiency and slapping a fucking blue star on it.
Are you under the impression these products won’t work without a fucking blue logo on them?
if it makes the libtards seethe it must be good
BASED
24 Good Boy Points for a single LED bulb? You could buy a 10 pack on aliexpress for that.
He’s talking about “low flow” toilets. They wouldn’t flush, and you ended up wasting way more water.
15 minute shitties
Kek underated
Hopefully he rolls back whatever fucking regulation is preventing smaller trucks from being made/imported.
Take some fucking fiber. I have a house built in 2018 so I'm assuming I have the 'bad' toilets and they never clog or have to be reflushed.
And the funny thing is, incandescent light bulbs are the healthiest meanwhile the energy efficient ones are detrimental to human life.
It has helped Americans save more than $500 billion since 1992
How though? How did they realistically quantify this amount?
The Energy Star thing sounds you use more energy/fuel just like the low flow toilet scam and environmental "water saving" pieces in showerheads make you use more water which is the opposite of what we are told it is supposed to do. Basically you end up using up more resources because of the lower output in the name of saving the environment.
You have to spend money to make money
They don't last 20,000 hours. The LEDs probably would be the cheap circuitry doesn't. Also halogen, by far, makes the best light.
OP is a faggot
15 minute shitties
SAVED
For reference a commercial dishwasher used in a restaurant kitchen takes two minutes to wash a full load. Energy rated slop takes at least 1 hour for a full load.
Correct. It's not a problem with the tech though, it's planned obsolescence.
noooo not muh hekkin scamerinos that make every product cheaper and shittier aaaaaa
Yeah fuck off, energy star is a gigantic fucking scam.
save 40 billion
taxes and utilities go up YoY to make up the revenue difference anyway
Yeah, it is a fucking scamnbecause that 40 billiom in savings.evaporates into vapor the second you do the fucking math yourself.
Also
nobody would ever lie or fudge numbers tk keep justifying their job/industry
ehl oh ehl
nobody is forcing you to buyna 5 star
Nigger the 5 star program exists solely to force appliance/electronics makers to abide by power use/environmental legislation who are you trying to fool?
Never thought about the difference in energy usage. That's a dramatic difference.
EVERY FUCKING TIME I take a shit the toilet clogs
The power of American bowels
Spending less is not saving
god damn, don't they even teach first grade maths in burgerland
you have $1 on you
there is an apple for $1 and an apple for 90c
You pick the 90c apple, you have now saved 10c.
you spent less so are saving money.
The problem that you seemed to have forgotten is that the rating and testing methods and criteria were created by the US federal government. So they are terrible and stupid.
Remember that in the USA a huge pickup truck is more energy efficient than a small truck because that's what the government regulations say.
I rarely see LED bulbs last beyond 300 hours, but my incandescent work lamp that gets beaten up and is left in the elements has had the same incandescent bulb in it for 7 years.
Recently, my dryer crapped out and it was a super cool 1.5 months before the replacements were finally delivered. We also weren't using our heater.
Our gas and electric bill rose.
Without even using.
The most expensive.
Fucking. Appliances.
I rarely see LED bulbs last beyond 300 hours
You replace a bulb once a month?
I haven't replaced an LED bulb in 15 years.
Saving money is bad.
The CAPITALISM demands pol to gave no saving, not saving money and spend all they have even accumulate debt. Take loans.
wow! over 33 years, every american has saved 48 dollars on energy. Really good program and worth having to replace shitty products every 5 years.
What's evergy star, I think some hp laptop I bought in 2008 had that sticker on it.
Just turn off your shit after you use it, faggot.
0w consume
It's typically the enclosures that kill them prematurely. Most fixtures aren't designed with cooling in mind and they are either fully enclosed or only open at the bottom.
Recessed lighting is particularly bad for them, as it's right up against the ceiling with a bunch of attic insulation on top of the can.
You can buy bulbs that are made to handle higher heat, but they cost more and can be difficult to fine. Most people don't read or understand the fine print about the specs anyway.
difficult to find*
energy star is probably just paying some rabbis to make sure the thing is kosher. many, many american products pay to have some jew slap a kosher label on them, and then pass the price of that sticker on to you. Rotten system.
import these instead
every time i visit my parents they have 2 tvs running and nobody is fucking watching.
anon, remember those health star ratings on our food? The ones that are literal scams? Where milo has a 5 star health rating despite being literal fucking sugar?
That's what the energy star ratings are.
I can't wait for Alec to chimpout on this.
Americans have to flush the toilet multiple times
Americans clog the toilet when they shit
Wtf?
does this mean you can buy a washing machine that works again
It is regulation what causes companies to invest on more efficient technology.
Energy consumption is not the company's problem, they can continue to crap out the cheapest most inexpensive and more power hungry electronics they can to save money and let consumers deal with the electric bill.
Mine takes an hour on the longest setting and it has a high rating.
Americans having to use their electric appliances multiple times, just like seemingly needing to flush the toilet multiple times, is a skill issue. You're doing it wrong nigger.
flourescent and LED lighting turned the zoomers gay
theyre probably either:
A. Wiping a lot before the initial flush with the turd
or
B. Are taking some seriously big shits
Both are very equally likely.
t. bought an industrial toilet snake for those heavy duty type shits, not fat
The problem is if you buy the 90c apple to save 10 cents the utility company(the grocery store in your example) adds new fees and charges and rate increases every year to make up for their revenue difference.
You're really not saving anything if your 90¢ apple costs you another $7.95 in surcharges and (((time of use))) fees and service charges, and taxes, and increased subscription/membership JUST to go to the grocery store.
If you're going to make a stupid simpleton comparison like that, fucking do it right and include every data point.
american diet is so bad they clog toilets daily
I have an architect lamp that's had the same incandescent lightbulb in it for over a decade (previous owner) In that same time frame I went through three LED desk lamps, and you can't even buy replacement LED's for a lot of them because they set them up in factory specific layouts so you have to buy a new lamp every time, or special order replacements that cost as much as a new lamp.
At least they don't have to clean their toilets multiple times a day like Germans do because of their poop shelves.
it was probably that if he shuts it because he knows best
USA has the largest trade AND budget deficits in the world.
Trump/Musk administration has cut spending on healthcare, education and infrastructure but raised spending on military and aid to Israel xD
Due to all these changes budget deficit will remain the same
This, it's a literal scam to push consoomers into buying new stuff and throwing away their working appliances.
I remember that logo from old computers! As a kid, I thought it represented a dolphin jumping in water. Come on, it looks like a dolphin. The star is his tail.
If you believe those numbers you are an idiot.
Americans are speedrunning destroying everything good.... I think it's arrogance and envy.
This but unironically.
It's an EPA regulation started by Bush I, and all the usual government cucks are coming out of the woodwork to support it which makes me think it does indeed suck. CNN claims 90% of households recognize the label but I don't remember ever seeing one on an appliance, and Susan Collins says her constituents always use it to find out the energy usage of their appliances before buying them, something I have never done in my life
It's not wasted energy if it's cold out. The light quality of LEDs has never been the same or as good despite the filters they apply, dimmers despite best efforts to inprove them still don't ever work quite the same, and the infrared light that incandescents give off even arguably has health benefits. They've got their place in stores snd facilities where lights are needed all hours of the day, the spaces are too big and built in such a way natural light isn't an option, the the shear amount of lighting would produce tremendous amounts of heat that needs to be lost. Things like warehouses, big box stores, schools and hospitals and things like that LEDs make a lot of sense for the same reasons we've long used florescents in those environments. For general purpose lighting in primary living spaces in actual homes though where you have natural light during the day and will be sleeping for most of the night? LEDs suck there and incandescents are genuinely superior and become incresingly so the colder and darker the climate gets.
