I have an 18 month old daughter who I suspect has autism. The thing is, it's caused a lot of self reflection on my life, especially my childhood and my struggles with school and work, and it suddenly dawned on me how I likely am autistic too. I distinctly remember all throughout my childhood being a loner, hating eye contact, hating physical contact (giving hugs and kisses to family members was almost painful for me), I could obsessively sit and play with the same thing for hours on end, struggled with school, bad at social interactions (not picking up sarcasm ever), prefering solitude, strong resistance to peer pressure especially in the case of drugs and alcohol, quick to be unbearably irritated by repetitive sounds, and later in life I struggled with finding and keeping jobs. I am just high functioning enough that I could get an almost equally autistic wife, who if I met through any other circumstances she probably would have never actually gone out with me, thus cementing in my mind that I was never intended to have children and the outcome of my daughter's autism is proof of it. It's like I'm being punished for doing something I wasn't meant to by design. Like I broke the rules and now I must suffer.
