I know someone will try to dunk on me for this, but if you have apple music check out their classical app. It's the best resource for classical music imo. Instead of just throwing a bunch of recordings at you when you search a composer, each composer's page is broken down by their complete history of works and then each work has a selection of recordings. If you've been into classical long enough you know that the way a piece is performed/recorded/conducted makes a big difference in its character.

Katsaris is better imo but he didn't record the whole body of chopins works like rubinstein. I think you cN find better interpretations of pretty much all of chopins works but you have to piece together so many artists. Rubinstein is a great general entry into chopin though for sure and I would t fault anyone for liking his chopin recordings.

Absolutely wrong. Classical musicians were never rich nor snobish or decadent. Some of the best composers and musicians who were in the service of the rulers might've been rich. But the love for music as a sonic aesthetic beauty and an exhibition of human excellence is something only intellectually noble people seek, no matter how rich or poor. Intellectually vapid people (no matter how rich or poor) see music and always saw music as just silly fun and this kind of people's music amongs the poor poeple were mostly some vulgar pub songs. The journey of an intelligent music lover has never been lined with gold. Even nowadays, people in symphonic orchestras, opera singers or virtuoso musicians are not particularly rich. The classical world's superstars maybe, but for 99 percent of people doing classical music are, and in history have always been poor. In this days and age, people are in a strange illusion, that music like hiphop is the music of the poor in the meaning of economical opression, but hiphop is just plainly stupid music (no matter if it's made or listened by a poor or rich person). On the opposide, If a person who has no money to have a car listenes to mozart. He's a nobility in a way, even tho he's poor. By the way, self indulgent snobs are mostly found in jazz music, but even those people aren't very rich.

Classical music is the only form of music where instruments are truly designed to play below the human range of hearing for physical effect on the listener.
That entire sound range is usually eliminated when you stream music to save bandwidth.
Furthermore you need to make sure the copy you are listening to is recorded and mastered well otherwise it sounds like shit.
With a good sound system you want to be able to sit and listen to it and be able to tell based solely on sound where the individual sections were seated.
I say this as someone who has nearly 1tb of high quality classical music saved on my computer which in turn is hooked up to a newly ten thousand dollar sound system.

Canon in D by Pachelbel is my favorite Classical piece. Perhaps tied with Debussy's Clair de Lune. Tchaikovsky is my favorite composer. Swan Lake, Nutcracker, 1812 Overture. Vivaldi Spring is amazing. Debussy and Chopin are great.

so here's the deal, I sometimes switch on the classical radio station while driving my car. A lot of it is super fucking boring, but some of it oh my god it's so fucking good that I want to take a deep dive, figure out which kind of classical music shit I really like and then listen to that for the rest of my days.

However, I have deep trouble researching this because everytime I go look for classical music to get started - even something like the 100 best pieces - it's all the same basic bitch classical music that I heard everywhere since high school. Yeah it's good, but it's so overplayed and it doesn't broaden my horizon.

However without a decent primer it could be a decade until I finally get to the stuff I like in a systematic way that let's me discover more of it. There's so much fucking classical music, I don't feel like taking a university course - even though it may very well be warranted. I'm just about done building my house, I have 3 kids under the age of 4 and a wife and I need to reboot my business in a new town.

Even tho, opera houses and theatres were expensive to built, the style of the decorations is far from being detached from the natural world. Every painter and every sculptor would tell you that these decorations show the absolute love for natural aesthetics and the devotion for celebrating the beauty of nature itself. It also takes very skilled craftsman, so it shows the craftmanship genuis of that age for generations to come, which is a value in itself, that's imprinted in every piece of those buildings architecture and design. And even tho, it might feel excessive, it's made to show the vast possibilities of human talent and cooperation.

The dad files compared to flac do sound better but there are a limited amount of companies that use it and that master for it.
Dsd 512 files are well over 4 times larger than flac counterparts.

I had the opportunity to work with her years back in a small ensemble competition. The only thing more surprising than how rock solid perfect her execution is in person is how friendly she is. I never would have expected someone that good would be so even tempered and well mannered.
