I went to Chick-fil-A today for the first time ever. In a city where every fast food restaurant seems to employing jeets, here half the staff were White and half the remainder were Asian. The food was good. Will probably go there again.

Haven't gone to McDonalds except once or twice for coffee.

The fries are fucking white slog, the fries used to be fucking good.

The reason is primarily due to the change in frying oil. Saturated fats like tallow are better for retaining structure. Unsaturated fats tend to be a lot worse at this so you've got to eat them as fresh as possible.

I've tried it with bacon fat compared to generic vegetable oil and the bacon fat just keep things crispier for longer.

The problem is that all fast food now costs the same as a sit-down meal at a real restaurant. There's objectively no reason to ever go to McDonalds and pay $20 for a burger and fries when you can get a small steak or a much better burger for the same price somewhere else.

The McDonalds empire, and all fast food in general, built themselves on two axioms:

it's fast/convenient

it's cheap

And of the two, the second one, cost, is the more important pillar. Because people will put up with slow service if it's still good food at a cheap price. But nobody is going to pay a premium for garbage, no matter how quick it comes out.

By pricing McSlop the same as decent food elsewhere, McDonalds has committed slow motion suicide. Nobody is ever going to eat a Big Mac or a Whopper if they can get a ribeye or new york strip for the same price at the steakhouse down the road.

In a system where every meal costs $20-25 no matter what, people are incentivized to eat at fancier places, because you may as fucking well.

A double bacon cheeseburger, four nuggets, a small fry and small drink are still $7 here. That's enough food for two days. Unless you are a fatty, you could eat that deal for lunch and then have a $1.50 can of Campbell's soup for dinner. Drink water and use Zyn's at all other times. The weight will melt off and maybe, just maybe, you'll find a GF.

I love McDonald's, but yeah, the price is getting too retarded. A big Mac by itself is like 7 dollars. A decade ago they were offering big Mac combo meals for 5 bucks a piece. The quantity of the food especially is the biggest problem. I'm not some fat fuck, but the big mac is so small I could pound like 3 in a row without too much trouble.

For me, it's the McChicken. The best fast food sandwich. I even ask for extra McChicken sauce packets and the staff is so friendly and more than willing to oblige.

One time I asked for McChicken sauce packets and they gave me three. I said, "Wow, three for free!" and the nice friendly McDonald's worker laughed and said, "I'm going to call you 3-for-free!". Now the staff greets me with "hey it's 3-for-free!" and ALWAYS give me three packets.

It's such a fun and cool atmosphere at my local McDonald's restaurant, I go there at least 3 times a week for lunch and a large iced coffee with milk instead of cream, 1-2 times for breakfast on the weekend, and maybe once for dinner when I'm in a rush but want a great meal that is affordable, fast, and can match my daily nutritional needs. I even dip my fries in McChicken sauce, it's delicious!

If you dont have a constant line, you cant have food alwaya cooking and about to be ready, and you cant have a full staff at each machine, and in a low-profit high volume business you wont make enough money.
So when there are 4 Mcdonalds per town, let alone other competing fast food businesses, none of them are at full capacity and making enough money to have small margins anymore.
