In Canada almost all private schools, and some public schools have uniforms.
Years after I left the kids at my old high school petitioned for uniforms, had a vote and got them.
Parents were surprised the kids wanted them. I was not.

Western schools do not mandate IDs no? when I was in school, you could be but ass naked but if you didn't have your ID on (an actual identification card you wear on a lace) when you entered school, you'd be seen as a threat/escorted outside.

School uniforms are not the same thing as a dress code. Dress codes are just "don't fucking wear spaghetti straps or clothes that show an excessive amount of skin". School uniforms are "every student is required to wear the exact same thing. Same shirt, same skirt/pants, same tie, etc..." The school may provide these items, possibly at a cost (with cost waivers for the poor in some areas I presume).
Almost no schools at any level in the US had school uniforms. The reason isn't cost, but because our culture demands people have a right to express themselves. Also, school superintendents are elected officials, so if the parents want their kids to have choice on what to wear to school, they will throw out anyone who stands in their way.

Although homeschooling is an option, because it requires a lot of time investment and private schools require a large monetary investment, neither is an acceptable option for people living paycheck to paycheck. The majority of kids go to public schools funded by a combination of property taxes, state taxes, and federal taxes. These schools are managed by a school board operated by local governments and managed by elected officials.
It's generally considered unacceptable for the government to require you to pay for something you can't afford. So the idea that the typical poor or middle class person having to pay money for their kid's education seems a bit absurd here.

I did wear a uniform in high school because it was in chicago and they wanted to avoid (gang) colors. Even on non uniform items like shoes or jackets we weren't allowed any colors but black/white/grey.
Also we had school issued bookbags and they were see-through and after all that we had to walk through metal detectors and even had an xray machine we had to put our bookbags in to get into school kek

Technically and arguably school uniforms are also prohibited under certain conditions here in Germany too. At least during demonstrations or public events, if it’s possible that the uniforms could be related to shared political convictions. I’d say it’s not even uncommon. It’s extremely rare.

This was the case for my middle school. I grew up in a trashy Mexican area and I had to wear a uniform due to gang violence concerns.
They're also the only country I can think of where people routinely don't wear lab coats.
The dexter (Howie) style lab coats do exist for a reason. They're made out of cotton so they don't melt and stick to you when on fire like polyester does and they all have popper front fastenings so you can pull the jacket off quickly.

Here at middle and high school you have a correspondence book, it is used for everything, the teachers write your warnings/detention, you can make exemptions from sports/canteen (here you send a paper at the beginning of each term to say my child will eat in the canteen on Tuesday and Thursday and you will be billed for that, but you can make an exemption for a day one time if the parents sign) your timetable, request for authorization for school trips etc.
you have to show it when you get in and out, if you don't have it you have to ask for a paper working as it for the dag and it will count as a warning, after 3 it's an hour of detention
