Not that I agree with it but to play devils advocate I could see the argument that mass produced food has less co2 generation per unit due to the scale, whereas a single person is going to be driving around and doing things less efficiently for less produce (e.g. your trip to the store for bag of fertilizer would produce orders of magnitude more co2 per capita than their trip for a dump truck of fertilizer that's been mathematically measured to use the least amount of fertilizer per unit possible).
