The real issue here is Boeing taking the contract to deliver a new AF1 and they can't get the job done on time or on budget.
Lockheed and Northrop Grumman don't make passenger planes but you can't tell me that they couldn't do a better job at designing one and building it before Boeing could even fix their own design flaws.

Lockheed or NG absolutely could, it's just that Boeing built the previous incarnations of AF1 and the new version will be built on the same platform.
That's the thing about Boeing, most of their "new" planes are the same design more or less as they were 30 to 40 years ago. They may have updated computer hardware and software and they have changed the location and type of engines for fuel efficiency, but the airframe is basically unchanged.
And AF1 is much more than just an aircraft, it's a flying White House with everything that's necessary for the president to carry out the functions of his office. Boeing already has all the security clearances necessary to build and maintain those systems, so supposedly it was going to be easier for them to upgrade it. Unfortunately Boeing can't keep their doors from falling off their airplanes.

there's been lots of discussion of a general youth drift right (and a general old drift left), but it's slight effects backed up by very charged anecdotes. and most of that is an apathy/dislike of the democrat performance among young left-wingers. drift to the right/trumpism comes from fairweather/libertarian types. die-hard left-wingers just get apathetic and stop responding when their leadership disappoints them utterly (see the state of the right like 15 years ago)

The bill would hike excise taxes on private university endowments. The current 1.4% rate would apply to universities with endowments between $500K and $750K.
