The idea of breaking up the manufacture of things like semiconductors keeps a single country from trying to manufacture everything in-house. Japan had a monopoly on the statistical process created by Edwards Deming and didn't want to train potential competition. Say that China wants to expand state control and centralize production, they'd take each individual component of say semi-conductor manufacturing and condense into one area, then likely apply the USSR method of economic planning and reduce their neighbors into satellites. For instance China's Belt and Road is almost identical to the US' Marshall Plan, yet they still rely on exporting like it's a banana republic. There's no reason for them not to develop their own resources and market. If China developed its own consumer market and started investing in developing economies there would be 0 problems, but they keep centralizing state and trying to hollow out neighbors by creating welfare states. I think they should either fully nationalize and cut off reliance on foreign markets or start trying to build up their neighbors with development assistance rather than loans and extraction. I'd rather prefer if China took the lead in Asia, that's why Kissinger invested in them to begin with, but I'm 99% sure it would just be the USSR 2.

The point I was trying to make is that 80s Japan was altogether unwilling to train competition for fear of losing their hold on the market. I want to see China with a strong currency, an independent market, and able to take the lead in Asia. That's why the US invested in them to begin with, instead they centralize everything rather than forming their own economic bloc. I can't imagine right now China would let go of state planning or take a risk in investing in potential competition. Part of the reason the USSR collapsed was because of bureaucratic bloat, when everything runs through state they constantly need to expand departments and getting rid of those departments becomes increasingly difficult as time goes on. The idea is to develop countries so you get varied data on how different economic systems work, it's kind of like how lab rats are essential to experimentation. Live testing is the most valuable resource in the world, without it everything stagnates, there's no way to advance.
