Britain needs electoral reform.
In the current system (First Past the Post/FPTP), it's winner takes all; voters get one vote, and are forced to vote for the one party they believe has the best chance at getting the most overall.
Doing *anything* else is essentially spoiling your vote and handing it to your main rival.
So what's better?
Single Transferable Vote, aka STV.
How's that work?
You rank the candidates, with #1 being your most preferred. Each time a candidate fails to meet the mark, your vote transfers to your #2 choice, your #3 choice, and so on until someone is elected.
In the 2024 election, here is the voteshare of the "big two":
LABOUR
33.7%.
TORY
23.7%
Now, look at the Reform votes. 14.3%. In an STV election, almost every single Tory voter would put TORY as their #1 choice, and Reform as their #2 choice. Likewise, Reform voters would put REFORM as their #1 choice, and TORY as their #2 choice. This means that if a Reform candidate fails in a Seat, most of those votes instead go to the TORY choice-and vice versa.

Basically, a REFORM lead government would be possible *tomorrow* if there was an STV election.
but REFORM are fags
Right, but the point here is that you can now vote for "riskier" candidates without any fear of splitting conservative/right wing votes in a seat.
