Im an unpassable tranny, several years ago I moved to a small town in a red state. Trump flags everywhere, everyone’s packing you get the gist. Feel like I just made a real big fucking mistake.
Yet everyone is super nice to me. Some were hesitant but eventually came around. Sometimes slipped up on the pronouns like “sorry sir, I mean miss. You prefer miss right?” Kinda deal. Everything is actually going so good. Lotta folks are friendly, made a few close friends, even started dating this guy who’s incredibly sweet. He got a little shit for it at first but brushed it off and no one seems to care. So I’m like “huh, guess midwestern republicans are just cool like that”
Fast forward to like a couple months ago. A black guy moves in, pretty nice looking guy but almost immediately there’s a vibe shift. Everyone is on edge when he’s around. When he enters a store the workers always follow him around, I start seeing guys urge their GF’s to start carrying more (yeah including mine) and being more protective holding us close when this guy is around. I feel kinda bad because he really didn’t do anything, but I don’t wanna go against the town.
So like… wtf is going on? I asked around and the dude didn’t do anything, it’s literally just because he’s black. How come I got acceptable so easily despite being trans when this stuff is way more recently debated than race stuff? I don’t get it
