Elon doesn't have any principled positions (in other words he doesn't actually believe in anything he says in some kind of grounded or consistent moral/rational basis); but he will say anything that will advance the development of his industry, power, wealth, etc.
Elon is in favor of solar power because him supporting solar is in his best financial interest: solar panels have overlapping tech/infrastructure with EVs, batteries, AI, all these various industries lead into one another, use the same resources, trade routes, and if you develop one you develop the other and in turn provide multiple venues for profit and development.
