She went from counting to what in assuming calculus at college in the span of about 8 years. for most people this is a process taking 15 years and spends several refining and reinforcing the core ideas to ensure that students know all that there is. granted skipping breaks and spending more time learning can speed that up but only by so much. there's no time to ruminate on concepts instead she would have had to have gone at a break neck speed through all of the curriculum something the article seems to hint at as she went from counting to 100 to calculus in about 6 years. she wouldn't have had time to thoroughly think about the concepts being explored leaving large gaps in her knowledge. same reasoning would apply to reading and writing as well, she would lack the experience built up to through the years to actually be considered proficient.
