Tipping is supposed to be a reward for exceptionally good service. EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD service. Not for average service that servers are already SUPPOSED to provide.

You're supposed to tip because you genuinely feel like the server/cook/etc. did an amazing job and deserve a reward.

With mandatory tipping, you're not rewarding good service anymore, you're just paying to avoid getting trash service the next time you go to that place. It's literal racket / protection money and Americans seem completely fine with it.

Why not just ask for more?

IT was the Single shittiest service I have ever got.
Then they had an EXTRA spot for MOAR tips on the bill.

LOL they thought I was going to tip them big for kissing my ass. Of course I didn't tip because they're paid well and I had no euros because no one would exchange them and the place in the airport wanted $1.45 per euro plus service fee. A few days later, I went back to the same restaurant because the food was so good and they just brought me my plates without all the chitchat. CLUBS ONLY and it's called an entry fee. Usually 3-5 euros max.
In restaurants, nobody charges extra AT ALL.
