I was looking into language demographics in the year 2100. Currently like 18% of the world has at least a basic command of the english language, but in 2100 it will be like 30%. I've tried to learn some German. There are some similarities in vocabulary but the grammar is far different and is difficult for native English speakers. Even vocab is only somewhat similar, English has more French origin words than Germanic origin due to England's cucking in the Norman invasion. As this guy says nobody speaks German in the states. Most German ancestry is close to 150 years back at this point. I live in an area where there was a remnant until pretty recently but it is dying off rapidly.

I had a more recent German ancestor and heard it spoken growing up. Working on getting my papers together for a possible citizenship confirmation. I think the only way to truly learn it would be immersion in a German speaking country.

back in the old days before google translate knowing some spanish was really handy. Now it's easier than ever to get by without. I took all 4 years in high school so if I get immersed for about 4 days enough kicks back in for me to be somewhat conversational. I find you'll get much more mileage out of the chicas if you can converse a bit, and as mentioned above about language changing the way people think, I find telling them how beautiful they are etc goes a long way. Think about telenovelas, that's their culture. Your mileage may vary of course.
