You can get the same level of service (attentive, friendly, etc) from a server at a chain franchise as you can from a server at a fancy fine dining place, yet because one ticket is $35 and the other ticket is $150, I’m supposed to tip one server $7 and the other server $30? That’s ridiculous.

As a customer, the best way to do it is more of a “flat” approach. Like, I realize many servers are probably making ~$10/hr as their standard wage, so if I spend an hour at their table, I’ll tip $5 - $10 to make up the gap and get them to $15 - $20/hr equivalency. I’m also not their only table during that hour, either, so they’re still coming out ahead.

But basing it off the percentage of the bill has always seemed silly to me.
