There is zero business case for american-manufactured iphones, as you stated the price point is not feasible in the best of times, especially not in a severe recession.
Apple is going to take that $500billion that was earmarked for domestic investment, and divert it to stock buybacks while valuations are low.
It's a complete no brainer - either build american factories that would build products that are so obscenely expensive they cannot be sold, or buyback stock to enrich the shareholders and executives in the mid to long-term horizon. Gee I wonder which path they will take.
