The companies themselves are going to have to eat a least some of these costs, distributors are going to take some, and finally the consumer. Regardless there will be price increases, just not all concentrated on the consumer pr for all goods equally. Tariffs on food goods that the public has become accustomed and where distribution for, using the term quite broadly, more "local" products dependent on season and climate are no longer in place seem to me where the largest discontent and tightest squeeze is likely to be. Industries can't be rebuilt overnight, crops and livestock take time and space to grow and raise, and even then if things getting better or worse from there depends largely on how the revenue generated is spent and if domestic industry and production to is actually prioritized. It's a gamble and it's not going to be easy but it seems a neccesary one. Our debt to GDP to debt ratio is already well into the negative, our manufacturing base is crippled, we're dependent for key goods absolutely neccesary for modern infrastructure, we aren't utilizing the material wealth our scale provides to it's full extent, and all this is very relevant when theres rising global tensions where the benefit of doing buinesses has we have been is becoming more and more unstable.
