Manufacturers did this to shift their engines and keep engine production up, and because it's ultimately cheaper than transitioning to the electric gender.

Fords have permanent cam phaser rattle issues and now rubber oil pump belts on the 5.0s. Every single one has transmission issues where it's not a matter of if but when it will fail. They nearly all rot out really bad, the Fords seem to be ok because they're all aluminum. Instead the Fords cost a fuckton to repair after a accident and the bigger trucks like the Superduty have a epidemic of stolen taillights and tailgates.

The only new truck that's actually built well is the Nissan Titan and that's getting discontinued because truck buyers are morons who want the latest gadgets and don't care about what happens in the long run after the warranty.
