After all of their costs in bringing it over, putting it on the shelf and paying employees, leases, electricity, etc. they may be making as little as 1 dollar on that item. So if costs are 50 cents more just to buy it, they are actually losing half their profit. Which means they have to charge a dollar more just to break even. (and will charge more than that for price gouging purposes, or at the very least, to have a buffer in case things get worse, and with trump's unpredictability, that's exactly what they'll do)

The predecessor is some Ivy league Jew that outsourced everything, cut pensions, and lobbied against unions and min wage and benefits. These were all one time gains. One time short term gains. By destroying local businesses and manufacturing and paying shit, they have cause major damage to the consumer market index, and now rely on tax funded benefits and food programs for their fulltime staff. So we're actually going into debt to fund an enormous monster of a company that sells almost exclusively foreign products, and mostly is staffed by foreigners in corporate, which pays a net near $0 in taxes. They even play games with charities that every single member of their board co owns or exclusively owns, where they donate returns and spoiled food and give their family enormous mid six figure wages. Those charities and nonprofits are only obligated to give 2% of proceeds to their cause but giving left over industrial waste to them, like removed ceiling tiles, broken fans, all that stuff has a scrap value and by donating it to themselves, Walmart is able to keep their tax contributions very low all while depending on taxes to compensate their employees.

You're only so addicted to cheap products because America has been gutted already. The only way to bring back wages is by supporting US brands. This will also be good for the environment because reduced shipping, higher emission standards, efficient energy and utilities, laws about waste, and so on. It is also more ethical since the compensation for workers is a livable wage, does not hire or depend on slaves, has higher safety, hour, and age requirements, and it would cause a major growth in the consumer market index if Americans actually had jobs that paid well.

Option A: sell 1 toy that cost you $20 for $30

We already have nonstop inflation, I think you mean price increases, which isn't the same thing as inflation since domestic goods won't be impacted. Companies are already announcing factories returning, some goods like food have gone down in price. We're drilling more of our own oil again. So not all the effects are really long term, obviously.

What the issue really is, the course we were on deprives the US of critical infrastructure, productivity, skill, and makes us dependent on a high threat adversary nation. If this continues, the US would be completely surpassed by China. They have stolen copyright info, they have ripped off manufacturing trade secrets, and advanced rapidly. Nothing exported there for work has remained a trade secret. All of our R&D is just ripped off for free. They make clones of every product and sell them to our supposed allies at huge discounts. This is a path that leads to our total failure.

Naturally we have to change course. Changing course is expensive and painful. But continuing would have been more painful eventually. There's no easy solution out of where we were. We must cut spending, and bring back productivity. Competing with slave labor devalues all labor. There's simply no choice anymore and yeah it will be years to maybe recover at all. Whoever is elected next must have the balls to stay the course.

Well that depends on how many more sales you would make by lowering prices, vs. how many you would lose by raising prices, wouldn't it? You can make up any scenario you want, but with inflation being an inevitability, rising prices WILL come. Consumer will not simply stop buying the cheapest walmart stuff because it's now more expensive (but still cheaper than other places) and price gouging happens. Like I said, it happened just a couple years ago during a pandemic, for NO reason. What makes you think prices won't rise? Or won't rise more than inflation this time?
