Horse and His Boy is less heavy on the Christian allegory aspect (it's still there but not as much) and is more like a classic children's fantasy-adventure story set in a made up world reminiscent of Christendom and the Caliphate(s) during the time of The Crusades. Obviously given that Lewis is Irish and a Christian the novel sides with the Christendom analogue unapologetically and thoroughly although there are a couple noble characters from the other side, principally the Princess who wants to escape being forced to be a child-bride. I'd say of all the books it's probably the most palatable to a non-Christian assuming they have pro Western, pro European-people sentiments.

it's the most discordant with the flow of the rest of the series because none of it takes place in Narnia, or for that matter in England/our world. it's set ENTIRELY in the fictional other world in which Narnia exists and yet 85% of it is in Calormen (the Caliphate country) and the rest in Archenland (the other White country) which is closely allied to Narnia and is the buffer state in between Calormen and Narnia. This makes the setting seem extremely foreign to the rest of the series, there's also a LOT more geopolitics than in any of the other novels (for a children's book I mean). King Edmund and Queen Susan are visiting Tashbaan (Calormen's Capital) on a diplomatic mission accompanied by some members of the Archenland Royal family in the hopes who improving relations, the two-faced Sultan, his scheming Grand Vizier, and his treacherous son are attempting to foment a casus belli for another war/invasion of the North (the son also really wants to fuck Susan). At the same time theres the whole drama with the two main characters, the White slave-boy (who was taken as a baby and raised in abuse and servitude) and the Princess attempting to execute their escape, along with two Narnian Horses (who can therefore talk but must pretend to be dumb mute Calormen horses less they be slaughtered--the horses were also stolen as foals by some Calormene war party or something). a lot of fans of the series don't like this one so much because it's so different but the differences are, for me, what makes it so incredibly special and enjoyable.
