I think it could be even cheaper which is why the government requires industrial alcohol to be poisoned (denatured) so you cant drink it. Drinking alcohol is heavily taxed by the states. A 1.75L plastic bottle of cheap vodka is around $20 in NY state.

But yeah you can buy all the stuff to distill and just not tell them but it is not technically legal without a license.

It came off as judgy but he was a sad case, 30 year old dude 6 years older than me but baby faced and short looked like a teenager. I felt your concerns through the screen, I have been clean since July 20 2023 and over the last 3 months I have been drinking NA beers which was great until I had a stressful situation 2 weeks ago, of the city trying to take our land via imminent domain. I switched to real beers but I really am trying to control it, no driving drunk anymore, no hard booze, no letting it impact my responsibilities and no getting caught drinking to stress the family out. Just a couple 8% beers after I get home. It sounds retarded and I went through hell my first year, anxiety worse than I ever experienced, hooked on gabapentin to manage it...idk, I feel guilty as hell as coming back and I know it's not fair to judge, who knows it could be me 10 years from now.

The scary thing about alcoholism, I could be 10 or 40 years sober and all it takes is stress, loss, pain or curiosity to start it all over again. I'll jump off this horse, I don't want to hit rock bottom again but I don't feel ready to put my foot down just yet.

I have not drank in years but I took in my sister last year and took her to AA a lot. Its kinda shitty, don't get trapped in that life in or outside of sobriety. I never had an addiction to alcohol but Id very often end my days by drinking just enough to get a little bit more than slightly buzzed. Only for me that meant a decent amount of whiskey. Id stop drinking for a couple weeks when ever I felt like it and then start again cuz why not. I rarely drank to get drunk (because that would take half a 1.75) and it never effected me in any observable way. Then one day as I was having my nightcap I wondered to myself out loud "It certainly doesnt seem like an issue to me but could alcohol be somehow getting in the way of things?"

A couple days later the desire to drink completely left me. Since then Ive had a couple of rough days where I thought "fuck this when I get home Im having a drink and chilling out" but then when I went to pour myself a drink I literally couldnt get myself to do it. Had the bottle uncorked and turned 90* but the smell hit my nose and I was entirely turned off to it. And I used to love the taste and smell of good whiskey.

Long story short I had 4 or 5 beers election night and besides that havent had any alcohol in 2 years. I didnt have to fight past alcohol addiction but for what its worth... my life is much better without it. gxt4d
