Then at the end of the meet everyone comes back, grabs their stuff, and heads home.
So if you wanted to be a thief you'd look like just another athlete wandering around, and you'd just walk back to your car and put the backpack or whatever full of stolen goods in it.
Track has a lot more variety than cross country because there are many different events involving different groups so it works more like a swim meet, but still, most people aren't going to be sitting in their tent, they're going to be out cheerleading their teammates whenever possible.
