I've had an opium addiction and I've had fent/dope/pharma opiod addictions. The opium tea addiction was only rivaled by methadone as far as how bad the withdrawals were. You can already grow them. The “bread poppy” is part of the papavar somniferum family. All poppies in this family yield quite a bit of opiate tar. You just can’t harvest the tar. That’s the only illegal part.

I've never had issues with it. If you are sowing wild then its good idea to prepare the area beforehand if possible, like before winter bonemeal and such. Did this at an abandoned garden at our cabin. Then sow either just before winter or early spring. They generally like cold while germinating and many issues rise from that, they want to think its winter and then spring and yay! growing time! :3

You just need to check your growing area and soil and what your plan is. Just wild sowing it is enough usually and it can grow wildly if left alone!
You can germinate seeds indoors to make sure they are viable, then mix the seeds with sand so its easier to sow and thats about it for when I've grown.
Balcony and indoors is easy and they are really pretty flowers. I always stagger the sowing in my moms garden so there's poppies flowering all over all the time :3
