It might not be at the same volum, but lets say 5-10% of chocolate and wine is a loss. This will only be sent to other markets and at the same time the majority of factories will take the heat for a certain amount of loss. They will sell the product a bit cheaper to the US, but at a larger volume. It might even be a bigger sale if they take the loss and at the end of the day, make more money.

The big issue with tariffs are not really products unless we talk about cars and stuff most people need a loan for. That might hurt. Same with commodities. This will hurt the industry both ways. But I am pretty sure that there will be deals down the road between businesses to solve this issue.

But even if that was not possible, the point is that China has a ton of manufacturing muscle they can flex in different ways. If the demand for microwave falls enough, they can make jet ski parts or whatever else.

China is just a giant factory. They can produce anything. The only reason Trump wants to bring manufacturing back to America is because he thinks it's good for a country to be a giant factory.

You can't make the claim that it's both good for America to be a giant factory, and a big problem for China to be a giant factory.

Brazil never managed to become some giant in the market for electronics. They just pay their TVs, computers, game consoles, etc. 3 or 4 times what global consumers pay.

I think Trump's made it very clear that would be an unbelievably unwise idea

As long as there's someone to buy it. I can buy a microwave made in Korea or Japan or Mexico or even theoretically the United States. Chang has to sell me his microwave he made.
