I work in auto manufacturing and this isn’t true. If you are a skilled worker, we need you more because of automation. At GM, if a single fabricator breaks down, it’s a human’s yearly salary every forty five minutes. So we pay chucklefucks to stand there and babysit. We also pay a fleet of engineers and maintenance guys that we didn’t need before automation.

I have money and am planning on leaving Canada within 2-3 months but I would much rather go to USA and be near like minded people rather than just living somewhere because its cheaper than where I am from.

I'm a zoomer and I know a fellow zoomer who used to work at an aluminum plant and he was paid well for it. He was more of a manager though, not a pencil pusher but also not directly on the line. Floor supervisor I think would be the best way to put it.

If we make them build factories at home, they'll rely on robotics and an educated, happy workforce, as they should have all along.

Factory work isn’t great but it pays better than shit jobs. The main advantage with shit jobs is the flexibility. One issue with factory jobs is a lot of the plants are in production 22 hours / day, so there is often rotating shift work. 3rd shift often pays more but there’s a reason for that - one of my droogs volunteered for the graveyard shift for 20 years to get the pay differential but suffered a permanent Constitution drain as a result and if he’s not at work he’s home nursing a cold.

Factories full of sweaty people hunched over a workbench are going to be a thing of the past. There are machines that can create socks with no human input other than system setup. There are even companies making "3d printed" clothing, where a thousand spools of thread are fed into a machine and it fabricates an entire garment in one go, no sweatshop full of sewing machines required. If this kind of thing becomes widespread then the developing world is going to become even poorer because cheap labor will be devalued.
