The backlog of quality content is big enough for a lifetime. I haven’t paid any attention to current media for over a decade and I have zero regrets about it. Quality doesn’t just improve forever. Sometimes, it peaks, and simply can’t be topped. There have been centuries long periods in history where the art output was dogshit, and people of the time looked back to better times, so this sort of dark age is not unprecedented.

This, I just consume old stuff made before it all went to shit. It IS unfortunate that our culture has fallen so far. But at least for my personal entertainment, I don't expect to ever run out of quality old-but-new-to-me music, video games, TV shows, and movies. As you say, the backlog of quality content is simply longer than a person's lifespan. One could easily spend a lifetime worth of leisure time just reading quality books written before 1900.
OP and those like him should try not to worry so much about what other people are doing and think. Just find your lane that makes you happy.
