I started being able to lucid dream when I noticed similar patterns and "blurry" details that only happen in dreams, once I notice it I can slightly control what happens but it doesn't take long before I wake up. The weirdest dreams I have that are also the most visually vivid and realistic seem to happen when I'm half awake and fall back asleep, I'm assuming it's in the middle of a REM cycle because I can still feel my bed but I have dream like visuals and if I think about a certain topic while half awake the dream will usually follow that topic. Sometimes I get multiple false awakenings in a row, these suck because it feels like you're waking up and go through your morning routine until you notice something is off, then "wake up" in your bed again. There's seemingly no way to get out of this loop on your own, no matter how hard you try to genuinely wake up it's almost like sleep paralysis but you're semi conscious, you can be really trying to get up but your entire body feels impossibly heavy. Some people are afraid to be stuck in an infinite loop but usually you can tell with 100% certainty that you're not in a dream just by asking yourself if you are, like the question itself will make you realize you're dreaming if you are.

This isn't all just subjective either. When we imagine something our visual cortex activates, same with other senses. The intensity of this activation is likely directly related to how well you can visualise.

Yes, I really do have the advantage. I have never studied art or trained in any way but I am still better at doodling stuff and expressing my ideas through pictures than most of my peers. Which usually is very helpful when explaining things to the less gifted as they mostly understand things they see with their eyes rather than listening to me describe something and creating the image in their heads. And I don’t believe myself to be anything special which begs the question, who and what are these automatons incapable of using imagination.

Interesting bit about being able to manipulate flavor in your mind, I wonder if that has anything to do with the sensory input you receive when you taste different things; I've been repeatedly called a poor taster by many people (a premium ribeye is only slightly better than any other cut of beef to me) and it's hard for me to do what you described, ie imagine how a certain spice combo will affect flavor, yet I'm great at visualization and taking things apart/putting them together in my mind. Makes me wonder how much of that imagination process begins with the way your brain first perceives and interprets something.

I made another reply about this but same for me, taste is a difficult thing to imagine and I think it may be due to having a poorer taste processing part of the brain. Dunno bout you but I've always been told that I just don't seem to taste things as vividly as others do even though I love eating, but my spatial visualization is excellent and I often fantasize about building things and imagining how it will all come together

It is quite hard to test something like that. Also I think the 1-5 scale in the apple test is worthless. You either see an apple or don’t see it at all. Why would you be able to think up a shitty apple instead of a proper one. If you would ask someone to visualize a tropic beach, would they imagine a shitty no details beach where the sand is just flat yellow and water is blue with no waves or any texture. The IQ-test part of this apple thing is just see if you understand what is being asked or not.

There are levels to it. Some people legit see it blurry, can't see the faces and so on. Because seeing it clearly is more tasking, demanding and rewuires more focus.

Once i was checking where my limit is, i tried to visualize earth, like 3km above or something, zoom out a bit, keep all the detail, then turn it around jeeping all detail, i literally felt electro shock going through my brain, like some stroke.

I know where my limit is, wanted to see what happens if i go over it. I'll never do that again lol, i didn't expect electro shock .

Interesting. Maybe I am taking it for granted. I have lived most of my life inside my head and just in the recent few years have I started truly experiencing and appreciating the physical world. I have seen great benefits in complex thinking from excercising, traveling and all sorts of physical world activities. Body is a castle and mind is the king of that castle.
