China announced on Friday that it will raise tariffs on American goods to 125 per cent from its previous rate of 84 per cent, matching the level announced by the Trump administration on Thursday.

Beijing will “simply ignore” any further tariff escalations from the US in the future, if Washington “persists with its tariff number games,” according to a statement from the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council, China’s cabinet.

At current duty rates, American goods exported to China already have no market viability, the commission said.

“Even if the US further raises tariffs to even higher levels, it would be economically meaningless and would ultimately become a laughingstock in the history of global economics,” it added.

Which, personally, I think Trump should stop. I think he should stop all farm subsidies and let farmers grow as much and whatever they want, and then absolutely demolish the global market for food. Flood every country with American agriculture product. It would be an easy way to indebt basically every poor country to us, at the cost of functionally nothing, and would stop the "need" to send actual dollars anywhere.

Not specifically that I'm aware of, the land zoned as agricultural is kept from being used partially to control overproduction/market prices, and partially to help control soil degradation. They're mostly left over from the New Deal where they tried to keep a grip on production to revive the economy, because if they let everyone just farm the shit out of the land during the Depression, there would be tons of food but no one could make any money on it and it'd be worthless.
